i don't understand this steroid debate according to most of the sources who have provided credible evidence up 2 90% of players used it. that's pitchers to so not only do players hit harder pitchers throw harder. The more we talk about steroids the more I think about players using amphetamines and other substances before they were illegal. I wonder if some the greats play was really because they were great or because they were doped up.

In baseball, numbers tell the story. Amphetamines no doubt helped the players, but they helped the batters and pitchers equally. The same can't be said about steroids.

Since the mid 90's, power numbers like HR's, Slugging % are well up, along with runs/game. The only pitching stat that has improved since the mid 90's is strikeouts per game, which is up slightly. Meanwhile ERA and hits/game have increased. Complete games are way down. People who say that steroids have helped the pitchers stamina, the decrease in CG seems to debunk that theory.

I agree that Bonds was already a great hitter before steroids. The steroids allowed his fly balls to carry a little further. Many of his home runs would have been fly outs to the warning track. You can statistically show how power has improved in the steroid era. You can't statistically show that the steroid era has helped pitchers.
