LHAC Questions...
After going to two LHAC games this weekend and reading about the others, I have a few questions for all the LHAC fans out there:
1. Does Bishop McCorts win over FH put them as the favorite to repeat as district champion?
2. Is Somerset good or is Bedford that bad, or a combination of both?
3. Is Richland ready to turn the corner or is this another 2006 when they started 3-0 and finished 4-6?
4. Another sub .500 season for Bishop Carroll?
5. Did Johnstown silence their critics as a "one-trick pony" by scoring twice through the air?

Re: LHAC Questions...
Number 2:
This is the best somerset team ive ever seen..although they still arent one of the top in the confrence...Bedford had 7 fumbles and 10 pentalties and a blocked punt in the first quarter..so that might have something to do with it...and before you jump on me that is not an excuse...bedford wasnt prepared for the game and thats why they lost..not an excuse its a reason.

Re: LHAC Questions...
I posted this reply in another post also so sorry to those of you that read both.
Wasn't at the game and glad of it but talked to several people who were and basically the Bisons have no talent and no coaching. They won the last 4 years despite the coaching because they had exceptional talent at the skill positions. They have average at best talent this year and from what I hear quite a bit of disarray amongst the coaching staff. They have a new coach fresh from WVU working with the linemen telling them how to block one way and an old bastard that continues to tell them they need to be doing it the way it was done 50 yrs ago and the players don't know who they're supposed to listen to. This is Swaims 5th year at Bedford and I'm pretty darn sure that he has had 5 different coaching staffs and the one guy that needs to be gotten rid of is still there. The kids don't like him and they have lost several real good coaches because they couldn't stand to work with him.

Re: LHAC Questions...
I love when players get on here and talk about their own teams...
oldsport,
Could you be talking about Creps?!?!? How DARE YOU! Swaim would sooner keep him around and let a guy go that made it to the last cut in the NFL. Wow. And now Damien Chrissey is there. Would have started at WVU last year all season had he suffered a season ending injury in the first game of the year. That line at WVU has had the 2nd best rushing total in the NCAA the past 4 years. And we're still blocking with the same technique taught in the early 60's. Hmm.
I can't buy the "not ready" comment. You've been practicing for 4 weeks now for one game(yes, 4, we all know Bedford runs those "voluntary" practices the week before camp opens). If Bedford isn't ready after 4 weeks of preparation, and the best we can do is an 18 blow out... Ouch. Swaim has taken Bedford from a very good, very competitive football team, and in 5 years, turned it completely around. And we're all stuck here looking for just exactly where the first win is going to come from this year on the schedule. It surely isn't within the next two weeks, so where's it gonna be? Are they going to start out 0-5 Before notching two wins in a row vs. CH and BG? Or will they even fall to one of them? I sure as hell hope not, but who knows. From what I saw on Friday, 3 wins will be the MAXIMUM this team is capable of. Just remember, Bedford typically starts off very strong and weakens as the year goes on. Not a good sign, not at all.

Re: LHAC Questions...
1. yes i think it is a good possibiltiy they are favorites, although a few kids i know from FH say their team isnt as strong as past years.
2. i think a combo of both, although somerset may be better than previous 17-game loosing streak years
3. i think that richland is going to have another repeat season of last year starting strong, but finishing weak against better, tougher teams.
4. i dont know much about bc
5. i do think johnstown made a statement but we will see in the upcoming weeks. and i also think coach maribito is doing a good job so far

Re: LHAC Questions...
1. If you know anything about HS football in our region, you ALREADY KNEW McCort was the favorite this year.
2. Somerset is solid this year. The FH game was closer thant he score indicated. Too bad for Somerset that their Section of the LHAC is better than usual. I am saying they win 4 games in 07.
3. Huge win for Richland last week. If they stay health, and that's a big IF, they can compete with anyone in the league. However, one key injury, this team goes from 8-2 to 5-5 real quick.
4. BC's record goes down...Blacklick and Northern Cambria gets better. You do the Math. BC's runs are over. Period.
5. Of the undefeated teams left in the LHAC, Johnstown is the weakest. They will lose to Westmont, McCort, and Forest Hills. They probably will lose to Richland. I wouldn't even rule out Somerset playing the Trojans tough.

And the last thing I must tell you...NEVER QUIT!
Re: LHAC Questions...
Johnstown v. Westmont----if Johnstown puts a man over each receiver westmont will run the ball. Key..small backs run outside...big backs inside.
Will try to establish FB but don't bite they want to run the double dive..key-wing usually on that side.
Trick plays...HB passes,wrap around draw.
I think if the Trojans do these things on D they will defeat westmont.

Re: LHAC Questions...
I'll just comment on #2.
Bedford is average at very best overall talent wise. There is no standout athlete on the team and alot of inexperience in the skill positions.
Hamm, I love your passion for Bedford sports. But you can be such a screwball sometimes.
1) I as far as letting a coach leave that was almost an NFL player goes. That coach has been with about 4 or 5 different LHAC teams over the past 5 or 6 years. He's a great guy and an outstanding football player. But you have to be willing to work within the gameplan which he didn't always like to do.
2) Damion could be a huge asset. But its his first shot at coaching. I'm sure he brings some great things to the table. But great player, 1 year out of college with NO coaching experience doesn't make an automatic great coach.
3) Same techniques as the 60's? Well I guess its also the same one's as the mid and late 90's when I played. And it seemed to work just fine!! 2 undefeated teams in a five year span!
4) People like to bash Mr. Creps. Maybe he's not the coach he once was! But a heck of alot could be learned from him from both the young coaches and players. Bedford didn't always have the best athletes. Lots of years CR had as good as or better skill players then Bedford. Difference? Line!!! Coach Creps always had one of the best defenses in the area and an undersized line that always seemed to get the job done.
There are many bigger problems within the Bedford sports programs then Bill Creps which I won't even get into.

Re: LHAC Questions...
Couldn't agree more lefteye. Coach Creps has been a part of nearly 1000 victories at Bedford in one way or another in wrestling, track, and football. Heck, he's even in the state wrestling hall of fame and was named coach of the year. I know it was in wrestling, but still proves he can be a good coach. He is a very good strategist. And every year the young kids think they know more than he does. It was that way in the 80's and it's still that way today. Once they start to listen things go much better. Ham seems to imply that Coaches McGee, Shoemaker, and now Swaim never had the nerve to just tell Creps to get lost. Any chance they realized he was a valuable asset? No, I'm sure these young kids know more than any of them did.
From what I saw of Bedford last week, things don't seem hopeless. If they just stop turning over the ball, they can compete with most teams. They could have easily won that game.
No one brought it up here, but what the heck was the J-Town coach thinking throwing a pass late in the game instead of just running out the clock? That's class 101 on how to lose a game.

a great coach? Try letting him try to teach you how to pole vault once, then you'll wonder if he's senile or hitting the hootch
