State finals...
State finals...
Anybody going to Hershey to watch these games?
Wouldn't it have been somethin if the D5A team would have made it. It looks like if NS had been able to hold on against Serra that they honestly could have made a run at it.
Friday at 1- Steel-High vs. Serra (A)
Friday at 7- Garnet Valley vs. T. Jefferson (AAA)
Saturday at 1- Dunmore vs. Jeanette (AA)
Saturday at 7- Parkland vs. Pitts Central Cath (AAAA) (both teams nearly lost in rd. 1 of states)
Will the WPIAL sweep all four titles?

Re: State finals...
Yea ! Man COACH... I too was thinking on the same lines... North Star was Very~Very Close, but no cigar.. The District #5 Windber Ramblers had the same fate two years ago, when Duquesne took them out of the picture ... One little slip-up & it's a wrap
I've always said, the door to the state title game, goes through the W.P.I.A.L. This year is "NO exception" There sending all "4' teams to represent the Western~half of the state / AGAIN !!!!
Some day ~ some year... District #5 / 6 / or even #9 will break the door down & get a shot at gold or silver? It will take a special bunch of guys with heart, soul, & some luck...

I get excited when someone besides the W.P.I.A.l. is going to Hershey... It's the same~Ole /Same ~Ole teams year in & year out. We need more parity in H.S. sports...

Re: State finals...
How can you create "parity" in H.S. football? "salary cap" collective bargain agreement" ? :?:

Re: State finals...
Last year there were no catholic schools in the state championship and this year only 2 outta 8...if there were something like 6 or 7 outta 8 then you could complain. And no one complains about charter schools, they are in the same boat...

Re: State finals...
I forgot to mention the private schools & selected schools..
I'm just wondering how the same schools year in, & year out, are always in the hunt for a certain sport that's offered :?:
Yes! coaching is one part, having the right kids involved is another, funding $$$ is another....but, it's even like that in the college ranks..
It's mostly the Same ole ~Same Ole teams winning in the same regarded sports... (except this year it was quite refreshing (to ME) to see a new number #1 college football team almost every week... now that's parity
When's the last time you ever heard of Aliquippa winning the P.I.A.A. High Diving competition

Re: State finals...
I mention "charter schools" because of Phili Prep Charter, the first AA team to win back to back state championships in Basketball. I should have stayed on topic in saying that I would love to see more parity. However, the lower the skill-base, the more of a standout one athlete can make. I'd love to see Pryor go on to be the next "Vince Young" as most are comparing him to. Do I think it will happen? Time will tell. Now I know football and basketball are team sports, but do you think Jeannette would be where they are without T.P. or 'Quippa without Pope, or even the Crushers without either Lewis the past 4 years? Im not so sure! But I love high school sports and I think there is enough parity to teach lessons such as "success is earned, not given" or whatever inspirational saying you might like. The teams that do the best are the teams that have the hardest working guys around.
