All-Time District 5/6 Team of the 90s
This will probably start some real arguments, but it should be fun as well. Tell me why I'm wrong and who your choices would be.
Top QB- Magnifico (JTN) (Had top-level D-1 talent, but not top level grades) Bailey (FH) (Had most passing yards in LHAC for the 90s)
Top RB- Artrell Hawkins (BM) (still holds the LHAC record for TD rushes in a season),
Top FB- Brad Straminak (WH) (One of the best RBs to ever play at Navy)
Top WRs- Geroy Simon (JTN) (Great Career at IUP, and top level WR in Canadian FL), Aaron Peterman (WH) (Grades derailed his potential college career), Bill Benbow (Bed), Nestasi (NBed)
Top TE- Gino Betta (Som)
Top O-linemen- Someone help me out on O and D linemen
Top D-Linemen
Top LBs Justin Oravetz (WH) (was a monster at Richmond. Had a neck injury that prevented him from going pro) Koontz (Bed)
Top Secondary- Someone help with the secondary
Top Kicker- Livengood (Som) (Had most FGs in a season for the 90s, kicked a 55 yarder, which I believe was a state record for a while)
Top Returner- Persio (CC) (holds all-time punt return avg for LHAC)

Re: All-Time District 5/6 Team of the 90s
Now i know he was in the 80's but his name is worth mentioning. Carlton Hasslerig was deffinatly the one of, if not the best linemen to come out of the area, he had great strength and footwork which led him from the practice squad with the steelers, to the pro-bowl. Also he was a 6 time NCAA champ in wrestling, Div 1 and 2. He was one of the best athletes to come out of the area. Although, he wont be on the 90's list but for darn sure hell be on the all time.
LEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRROOOOOOOOYYYYYYYYYY JEEEEEEEENNNNNNNNNNKKKKKKKIIIIINNNNNNNNNSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Re: All-Time District 5/6 Team of the 90s
simply pour over the long list of athletes with NFL experience and major D-1 football programs. then you will have your list.
Re: All-Time District 5/6 Team of the 90s
As far as I can remember, players from the '90's who went D-I or I-AA:
FH.... Brandon Bailey QB... West Virginia and transfer to UCONN
BM.... Artrell Hawkins DB... Cincinnati
FH.... Tim Baumgardner Safety... Fordham
Westmont ...Justin Oravetz DL...Richmond
FH....Jason Plummer DL...William and Mary
FH....Brian Endler WR...Lehigh
FH.... John Petrunak DL...James Madison
Ligonier....Dallas Wharton ??? RB....Temple
FH....Dave Poldiak QB....1996-1999....VMI
Not many players went Division I or I-AA in those days from our area. When you consider that 6 kids eventually went on to D-I in those days, no wonder FH won 103 games from 1990-1999.

Re: All-Time District 5/6 Team of the 90s
I do believe that Andy Hagans from Somerset did play as a freshman for the I-AA Citadel around 1997, but quit after one term. Also the Baer kid from Chestnut Ridge went to Northwestern as a walk-on in 1997 and eventually got a scholarship to play defensive line. Got hurt in a motorcycle accident just when things were going his way and had to quit football. Not sure about that Roseberry kid from Tyrone. Went to Pitt as a walk-on and only played special teams. That's about it from the '90's. Please don't forget that St. Francis, Robert Morris, Duquesne, etc were NON-SCHOLORSHIP I-AA teams in those days. Again, no comparison to the traditional I-AA teams of that era.
