Last 10 years:

Pitt 5 IAA teams

Temple 4 IAA teams
(98: William and Mary; 02 Richmond; 03 Villanova; 04 Fl. A&M)

But Temple with 1995, 1997, 1998, wins against Pitt.

For there to be a champion in a conference, there has to be someone who finishes in LAST place. That was Temple in the Big East, and it's been Indiana previously in the Big Ten. It's not Pitt's fault Temple sucked or PSU's fault IU was bad. Isn't this the argument people use to defend Texas in 2005?

That attitude of "we're not scared of anyone" sure works well for Pat Hill, too. Fresno loves to schedule big name programs, and no matter how hard you pray, those losses are still losses. That USC game was a loss, just like the Notre Dame and USC game. A loss is a loss, not a win. You do not get points for "almost". Almost only counts in horseshoes and lemonade.

The state of college football is that you play basically tune-up games prior to your conference games. ONce in awhile, a program will schedule a nice home and home for all the little fans to get excited about (PSU-Nebraska, OSU-UT). Every major program schedules a few cupcakes to get the kids ready for the conference games. If the NCAA programs are classified as a society, then how is it wrong to schedule these tune-ups when SOCIETY makes the rules? Is it "wrong" when it's accepted practice or the norm? You could always schedule USC and have a really close LOSS.

There's nothing wrong with scheduling Temple. Temple is I-A and is fair game, just like the Sun Belt is. A win over MIddle Tennessee is always going to look better than a win over a I-AA team, even if that team is the defending I-AA national champion.
