A few points to make:
1) The 1974 Pirates team was headlined by future Hall of Famer Willie Stargell.
2) That team was only 3 season removed from a World Series Championship and had also won 2 division titles to go along with that World Series crown from 1970-1974. So there was reason to believe that an 0-6 could eventually be overcome because the team had already proved itself before 1974.
3) The current Pirate team is over a decade removed from even a winning season and is loaded with young, albeit good, players. They have very little experience, and at 0-6, had to be struggling to find confidence-- not to mention the fact that sportswriters nationwide and many Pirate fans had already chalked this season up as another losing campaign. As I said in my last post, an 0-anything start is really tough to overcome. Had the Bucs not at least got these first few wins, they'd be struggling to gain confidence even later into the season. The season would become more and more unsalvageable.

Note: The Bucs lost today. So much for salvaging the season... lol

0-1 is a lost season? they're gonna come around. people in general are too quick to judge. take a look at the mets right now, they're doing extremely well, i don't know their record and i'm not going to look it up and everyone is already talking about them breaking the braves streak of winning the NL East 14 (not sure on that number) straight years... quite frankly, i think the people that are saying that are stupid too, it's only a couple weeks into the season, there is no way at this point you can say who's going to win what division and what the records are going to look like at the end of the year.

Of course 0-1 isn't a lost season. But 0-4,5, and 6 is really tough for a team like this Pirate team to overcome.

Also, believe me just because I'm debating this doesn't mean I've already lost hope for the Bucs. As I said in a previous post, these Pirates have an actual chance at being competitive.

oh...then i wouldn't be arguing with you as much... i thought you were one of those that thought just because of their start they were gonna suck the rest of the year....

The pirates are now 5-15 I think now. Well, this is really frustrating. I thought they could be maybe be right around or close to .500 Safe to say that is going to be tough. I think to have any chance at all for anything, they need to win say 5-6 in a row. Still, never fails. When offense is on pitching is bad. When pitching is on offense stinks. To look at standings and see pirates are a loss or two away from having worst record on majors is very sad.

As an objective baseball fan, the Pirates are probably the biggest joke in all of baseball. This is the youth movement that Pittsburgh fans have been licking their chops for for the last few years and now its here. Worth the wait?

I remember the first five-year plan Cam Bonifay laid out in the mid 90's... the present plan is starting to look equally successful.

But the Bucs' primary problem is ownership, which is probably the worst in all of sports, let alone baseball.

McClatchy, doesn't have the resources to put together a respectable team, he's proven that. But he's not the only problem. Dave Littlefield has shown nothing to get excited over in 4? years on the job.

The arguement can be made that he's made some decent trades and signings, but there is undoubtly an equal amount of absolute crap deals he's pulled the trigger on too. Chris Selton, anyone? How about electing to keep Kris Benson over Aramis Ramirez?

Michael Keaton was right on, Pittsburgh fans have been to gracious. While McClatchy sits back and makes as much as $15 million a season you guys, the fans, lose.
Did you know... that the College Football Hall of Fame recognizes Pitt as having won THREE national championships?
