LEGION--------St. Michaels vs. Westmont
Re: LEGION--------St. Michaels vs. Westmont
I don't disagree with either of you, but for mergers to happen (and work) there has to be buy-in from all involved and that's a tall order considering many people in these little towns are still fighting over the school jointures in the 1960s.

Around here, a moderate is someone who only holds a grudge for 3 generations.
If you don't know where you're going, you'll probably end up somewhere else.

I dont know that consolidation is even the answer. I just think that the state legion organization needs to look at evening up the zoning. Teams like Altoona and Hollidaysburg shouldnt be able to pick up players outside there district. They are big enough to stand alone. Why wouldnt Huntingdon and J. Valley form a team.

Re: LEGION--------St. Michaels vs. Westmont
Just a thought, How about the playoffs go like this- 1 through 8, instead of the "big dog" getting a two week layoff before regionals. Those teams that draw from one school district/ town get to pick up any available player from any of the bottom teams that don't make it in. These couple bottom teams DO have a couple quality kids who could contribute, just as the AAABA league makes its pickups for the big show. Then, after the first round has eliminated four more teams, those teams from one little area again would be allowed a second pickup, from those just eliminated in first round, and so on, up the ladder, until they get to regionals. This would be a maximum of 3 pickups, and the teams with the weaker pitching staffs would be able to bolster their arms situation. Or a weaker positional player (s). This would no doubt cause some dissension on some teams, because a kid that maybe is so so would be replaced, at least part time, by a better kid from another team. This is where the "I" syndrome among current players would really be tested or would they just quit on their team? Remember there is no "I" in T-E-A-M.

I like that idea, or even if the two teams moving on to regionals get to pick up four or so players, with the regular season champ getting first dibs.

I like that idea as well, i mean it would be like AAABA then, where you can pick up players. We have to face the facts and realize that the only way that a CCAL team is going to make it to the State Tournament is if they could pick up a few top players from other teams in the league. The area is not as large, and skillful as other regions that have competed in the regional tournaments.
Re: LEGION--------St. Michaels vs. Westmont
to revisit a subject earlier posted....Coach from St. Michael legion blaming AAABA manager for losing him series against westmont. I hope you paid attention to AAABA league playoffs. Top pitchers from 2 teams left with arm problems and my opinion would be from over exertion. I guess that manager that cost you the series knows how to manage players arms, he got 4 or so quality starts from his starters in the playoffs. After they threw, they weren't put at SS, 3b etc, where they would have to use their arm again. Maybe you could take a lesson from that. Just my opinion
Re: LEGION--------St. Michaels vs. Westmont
one thing about seeing westmont do this well in baseball with a few mccort kids makes you think how much better westmont could be at things if the kids in their district went to their school...

just think how many LHAC championships, district championships, and state titles this mega school would contend for if Westmont and McCort would combine. The possibilities would be endless.

You have to admit the Westmont area including BM kids that live in it has some of the better athletes.
