Re: BCS Bowl Still on PSU's Horizon
I think this comes down to Boise State and a Big Ten school for the final spot, perhaps Cincinnati if they win and lose to Pittsburgh as well.
I think it would be a wise move for Boise State to cut ties with the WAC and become an independent or apply to join the Mountain West Conference. Maybe some day the Pac 10 will come calling, but either of those moves would be good ones for their program.

I said before, Boise State can not move to the Pac-10 at this point because of academic reasons. They do not fit the Pac-10's academic standards.

The PSU / USC Rose Bowl drew an 11.7. Iowa and South Carolina? 3.1.
Iowa in the 2003 Orange Bowl: 9.7.
Penn State 2005 Orange Bowl: 12.3.

I don't give a F if their ratings were 31.7 & 21.3, UPS in a BCS game is a joke & they should be punished/held accountable for perhaps the weakest ooc schedule in the entire country!!

Okay, lets say Veeman and Daddy Veeman own a father and son shop. Over the past couple years, your profits have gone down while your competitors' profits have all gone up. You now have a chance to sell a product that you know everyone wants to buy, and will buy. It is a sure thing. In fact, you and the company that produces that product hadd a great relationship in the past when you worked thogether. It will greatly help your profits if you sell the product. But, you know in your heart that it might be a slightly inferior product compared to choice 2. Thing is, though, is that people don't want to buy choice 2, and your small profits will continue for a whole 'nother year, versus the high profits of your competitors, if you sell choice 2 instead. Which product do you pick, Veeman?

Re: BCS Bowl Still on PSU's Horizon
weakest OOC in the country, come on vman! It was definitely weak but here are some that are way worse than PSU's...
Florida: Charleston Southern, Troy, FIU (see any BCS schools? me neither)
Texas: Louisiana Monroe, Wyoming, Central FL, (BCS schools? nope!)
LSU: UWash, UL Laf, Tulane (starting to see a trend??)
PSU: Akron, Temple, Eastern Illinois, and DING DING DING WE HAVE A WINNER!! Syracuse (what's this? A BCS SCHOOL!!! albeit syracuse sucks but nevertheless they are a BCS school.
the top 2 could very well play for the national title, don't have your head in the sand that PSU had the worst OOC schedule. Their's is definitely pathetic, but also not the worst.

Penn State may have played a BCS school non-conference, but they didn't beat anyone all season. How can you say that you're a good team if you didn't beat a quality team all year?

I guess the same way Texas can.
Too much emphasis is placed on luck. Texas has no control over their opponents. If Texas schedules Florida next season and Florida goes 4-8, now Texas didn't play anybody. It's bull****.

Re: BCS Bowl Still on PSU's Horizon
You see the difference is Texas is 11-0. Penn State is 10-2. If you go undefeated, you control your own destiny. If you lose games, then you leave it up the system. If you go undefeated, how can you claim that it was just luck? I agree that Texas' strength of schedule is a little weak this year due to the Big 12 not being near as strong as last year. However, they play for a Conference Championship unlike the Big 10, which is a complete joke of a conference. The first step in the Big 10 needs to take in making itself a legitimate conference is by having a Conference Championship. There's no reason why their season should end two weeks before the ACC, SEC, and Big 12.

Re: BCS Bowl Still on PSU's Horizon
Problem with that is that the conference brass DOES actually care about academics, and they are worried about Finals. Big Ten has the best academic conference in the nation by a longshot. That's the problem.
As far a conference championship, they need to add a 12th team. Notre Dame's massive potential monetary woes could force them to join the Big Ten (makes more money than BE). Rutgers and Pitt are other recent names. Problem is that the B10, unlike the BE, is all-inclusive with their members. They will not allow Pitt to play basketball in the Big East. Will Pitt leave the Big East? My opinion is that they would be stupid not to, but i see it both ways.
The point about luck is this: What if Penn State played Stanford this year and PSU was the only team to beat them? That looks great. But what if they played them and Stanford ended up 3-9? Now, all of a sudden, we don't play anyone. Its a crapshoot when you schedule 3 years in advance. Penn State's OOC schedule this year is abyssmal. But it is totally unfair to hold this OOC crap against teams, 3 years later. You are rewarding teams for being lucky enough to have their opponents performing well that season.
Novel way to curb this is a 4 or 8 team playoff.
