Re: Dream Big 10 solution
I would love Pitt to get in even though it's not what's best for the conference. Any Pitt fan that is arguing that it should stay in the Big East will be in for a rude awakening when Rutgers or Syracuse ends up in the Big Ten. Say goodbye to the Automatic BCS bid. You think your conference lacks respect now? Wait until you see what happens when another team leaves no matter who it is.
Pitt fans rip the big ten, but the majority of the arguments I have seen from Pitt people that last few days have been "We have a chance to go to the BCS year in and year out in the Big East" in the Big Ten we might have that chance once every 10 years. The true colors are coming out for Pitt. Pitt should be begging the Big Ten to take them. Every team in the Big East is probably scrambling for a backup plan right now. I'm sure WVU will be on the phone begging the ACC to take them within the next few months.

Pitt fans crack me up. They complain for years that Paterno screwed them out of the Pitt/Penn State rivalry (even though Pitt turned down the last offer) yet when Paterno is begging for the Big Ten to expand and wants them to consider Pitt, they are all the sudden happy with the Big East.
Pitt fans don't want to play Penn State because they would rather **** about Paterno not playing them even though he is making more of an effort to help their university than they are themselves.

Re: Dream Big 10 solution
In all honesty, the Big East is the best situation for Pitt fans. They can brag about Sagarin Ratings with ex conf usa teams, Bowl Records against teams pegged 3 spots below them in other conferences, and say Penn State is too scared to play them bringing up 12-0.
If they join the Big Ten, in most years they will get handled by OSU, PSU, Mich, Wisconsin, and most years Iowa and Mich St. When they play a bowl game it will be against a conference tie in with a team that finished in the same position as they did in the Big Ten. They will start playing Penn State again and 12-0 will be a memory replaced by beatings 80% of the time.
Right now, it's better for them to live in their fantasy world believing that it's still 1976 and Pitt is still "IT"

Re: Dream Big 10 solution
Well here is one Pitt fan that hopes the Big 10 takes them.
I'm not particularly a Big 10 fan, but past history has shown that the Big East is vulnerable/raidable and I don't trust those in charge. The BE made a pretty nice comeback after the ACC raid, but I doubt they can do it again. So Pitt's best interest, if tendered an offer, is to run to the Midwest. It's a known fact that if the SEC ever tendered an offer to WVU they would be out the door in a second so it's only a matter of time before the BE has problems again.
AE's analogy is a good one....if they get raided again, maybe they should just merge with C-USA.
The other thing I like is....PSU vs Pitt every year home and home!
And other good point, to set the table for a future football playoff need to keep expanding and having conference playoffs which could act, eventually, as a potential round of 16 for a post-season tournament.
8 conferences multiplied by 12 teams per conference would facilitate 96 of the Div. I schools.
Nothing against the teams in the Big East, I just don't trust the leadership as a result of the ACC raid.

All good points. That's what Pitt fans do...love to talk $hit.abpk2903 wrote:Pitt fans crack me up. If Pitt does receive an offer from the Big Ten and turn it down....then Pitt fans have no right to continue crying about Paterno not playing them ever year, with Pitt turning down the last offer and having a chance at joining the conference (with Paterno lobbying for the Panthers) this should put an end to all the crying, moaning, bit**ing we hear from Pitt fans every year.
Put up or shut up!

Re: Dream Big 10 solution
Pitt athletics will sink because they will lose the NJ area that has been so good to them in football and basketball. If Rutgers leaves, that means the home Rutgers games against Pitt now become PSU and Ohio State. There will be no more Pitt exposure to those areas. There's no chance that Pitt will be able to outrecruit Ohio State, PSU, Rutgers, and Michigan in the state of New Jersey in ANY sport after a couple seasons in the B10.
Pitt is also having trouble funding athletics. Even recently, there was talk of Pitt dropping a few sports altogether. That's very unfortunate for a school w/ as good of academics as Pittsburgh. It doesn't need to happen. The B10 Network and the bowl ties and the shared revenue and the academic collaborations will guarantee Pitt doesn't go down that road. Do you realize how many undergrads come out of the Big Ten every year? Do you realize just how many Big Ten fans there really are?
