Manfred wrote:I believe TITAN meant Ron Fedore. He'd have a tough time making my top 10, but that goes back to the beginning, in 1967. FH had a bull moose in the backfield named Jerry Bulvin, who also played "D", and went to PSU to play linebacker. His unfortunate timing at being there meant he had to play backup to All-American Dennis Onkotz. He was followed at FH by some guy named Bailey or such. IMHO, in the past 20 years or so, Timmy Baumgardner was tops. He played some QB, and caught lots of passes too. Best "all-around" back @ FH. Nick D. is great, but time will tell if he moves into my top 5.
Good stuff Manfred. I totally agree Timmy B was the best around skill player I've seen play. Granted I didn't start following Ranger football til mid-80's. Timmy could do it all on both sides of the ball, but I don't think I'd put him into just a running back because he didn't touch the ball enough there.

Mehall and Nick D. were two totally different backs with different styles. Both great in their own rights.

I'll also agree you can't judge on stats only. The fact that these two have similar stats just means they are both great, not who was better.
And the last thing I must tell you...NEVER QUIT!

The Best All-Around Football player I've seen at Forest Hills was Tim Baumgardner. Danny Wolfhope was another great player and so was Buddha (Sp?) Chunta, but there have been sooo many over the years. It is really difficult to say who the best was/is. Of course, you could make the same argument regarding any school.

I should also add that I've only been watching Ranger football from the early 80's to present day.

I would put him Tier 2. Really is taking advantage of LHAC being the worse in these couple years that it has ever been is helping out. Will definately have better stats then Mehall bc of Mehall's junior year. To be frank FH really sucked that year. I still say Mehall's senior year performance at running back was the best I ever seen from a back at FH.

I remember reading that from the 4th game until 12th (8 games for the slow folks) he put up 1650 yards and averaged over 200 yards a game. I mean that is unreal stats.

Like stated both are good backs. Dudukovich is a typical FH RB. A bruiser that will run right at you. Mehall was the total opposite. Maybe I prefer Mehall because I just haven't see that type of back at FH for many years.

Can someone post a list of the last 10 or so running backs at FH?

1. Dudukovich
2. Mehall
3. Kostan (1,000 yard rusher from fullback but played some runningback too)
4. Lazration
5. Gallaghar/Trout
6. Shall
7.??

Not sure how accurate this is. FH hasn't always run he I it does now. Some years were primarily fullack running (2007), or a double wing offense (the 2003 team that went to the Western Finals) so it's hard to name them.

The question nowadays is, how good is the competition that these runningbacks are playing against. Just go back about 15 years or so. The competition was DEFINITELY better than today.

You don't even need to go back 15 years. Go back 3-5 years. Lewis, Reed, Pecora, Cruz, Greene, Istanich etc etc are making big time contributions on college teams. The talent at the top remains similar, but top to bottom isn't even comparable. Pretty crazy to think Pecora's team only went like 7-4 or something with the talent they had that year. Somerset, McCort, PC, FH, Jtown, and CC were all loaded with talent then.

I thought, though, that we were talking about FH runningbacks. FH opponents were MUCH better back then. Even 3-5 years ago, FH's competition wasn't as stiff as it was then.
