Sagarin Says........

Post by KirkHerbstreit »

Pitt is the 3rd best team in State behind Temple! Figured Pitt fans would want to know since they always base everything off is ratings.

I think Temple would beat Pitt, and Penn State was lucky to pull that out.

If I were to rank the teams in PA.....

1. Temple
2. Steelers
3. Eagles
4. Pittsburgh Central Catholic
5. Penn State
6. Pittsburgh Power
7. Pitt

I'd probably toss some PSAC teams in there too, maybe throw in Juniata at #908089 for craps and giggles.

You guys know how I feel about Sagarin, and he has Pitt right where they deserve to be, at 51. But this doesn't tell the whole story of the top 3 Pa schools in his rankings. When you consider how Pitt's, PSU's and Temple's first 5 opponents of the season are presently ranked, it may tell why? Pitt's first 5 opponents of this season have an average ranking of 61.6, PSU's opponent average is 85.8, and Temple's opponent average is 97.6. Guess when you play a TOUGH schedule, you always have a chance to lose games early in the season. By the way, St. Francis is ranked 239 out of 246.

Sagarin has Alabama as is #1 team. Not counting them, the average ranking of the other 4 teams that PSU plays in the first 5 games is 107. Goes to show you how POOR PSU's early schedule is. And by the way, the paid attendance for the Eastern Michigan game at Beaver Stadium was 95,000+. That's another PSU home game where there were OVER 10,000 empty seats. Are PSU fans disgusted with the PSU product on the field, or the sad selection of home opponents?

Honestly, I would say both contribute to the crowds being smaller. Add in the fact of the STEP program and i think it will get worse until they get a new coach

Penn State drops 1 spot for that debacle at Indiana? They should have dropped 30.
