Playoff Picture October 10.....

Post by Crimson's Ghost »

The AA playoff picture is interesting as it stands....

Of the 18 teams, only 1 is officially eliminated that being 0-6 Central Cambria, and I have them with a projected 1-9 finish.

The 1-5 record group has to run the table to even have a slight chance....1 loss eliminates them.

--Westmont plays Richland, and Penn Cambria yet. consider them done. projected 2-8.
--Penns Valley still has a sure loss at Tyrone, taking them out for sure. 2-8 projected finish.
--Huntingdon has Clearfield and Philipsburg, 1-9 projected finish.

The group of teams with a 2-4 mark, also should likely win out....maybe they can lose a game and finish 5-5 and sneak in.

--Cambria Heights is intriguing, they can beat Carroll,Westy, and even Somerset and will need to pull off a big upset against McCort. I say they finish 4-6, though.

--Somerset has Bedford and Forest Hills left, unlikely wins. But I think they beat Heights and Carroll. 4-6 finish.

--Bald Eagle will lose to Tyrone and Central, win their other 2 also making them 4-6 as well.

So basically it is an 11 team race.

--Mt. Union likely won't get in, I think Bellwood and Northern Bedford takes them out. They'll win 2 games to finish .500, but their wins have little value points wise.

--Bedford is going to make a push. They should beat Central Cambria, I have them beating Somerset also, and no reason in the world that can win out and beat Penn Cambria and Chestnut Ridge also. I have them winning 3 of 4 and getting to 6-4.

--Central will win their final 3 games, and they get top seeded Philipsburg at home Friday. I say they go 3-1, and finish 6-4.

--Chestnut Ridge will win their next 2 weeks, I sya lose to Allegheny of Maryland and Bedford, too. making them 5-5.

So with that said. of the 11, I have taken 2 out, leaving 8 spots for 9 teams.

--Juniata is at 4-2. And actually they have some stiff games coming up, AAAA Central Mountain, Clearfield and Tyrone. Maybe 3 losses right there, and an out of district A team with a losing record they should beat. Making them 5-5.

--Forest Hills at 5-1 should beat Somerset and McCort. two tough games with Penn Cambria, and Johstown. I say the win all, but Johnstown making them 8-2.

--With that said, I think PC loses to Richland and Forest Hills giving them a 7-3 mark.

--Ligonier will be 8-1 going into a non conference game with Philipsburg on the road. I say they lose and finish at 8-2.

--I have Tyrone winning out, including a win over Phillipsburg. finish at 9-1.

--Richland wins out easily. 9-1 also.

--Philipsburg wins 3 of 4 to go 8-2.

So in essence....My AA playoff picture looks like this..
1. Richland (9-1)
2. Tyrone (9-1) (not sure how it will work out point wise, but they will be 1-2.)
3. Forest Hills (8-2)
4. Philipsburg-Osceola (8-2)
5. Ligonier Valley (8-2)
6. Penn Cambria (7-3)
7. Central (6-4)
8. Bedford (6-4)

I'd believe in Philipsburg a little more if they did not lose to Marion Center. How did they lose that game and then end up beating Clearfield? Something does not add up.

Points wise If Tyrone and Richland win out, Tyrone I believe will edge them with bonus points, Richlands teams remaining on their schedule have 8 combined wins while Tyrone's remainder has 12 that's 40 more bonus points, Tyrone trails by 20 right now ...that's figuring on a split for teams already beaten getting wins the rest of the way for both. As far as P-O goes, I was trying to wrap my mind around the whole Clearfield/MC thing as well. If you remember they played that monsoon night when most other people got rescheduled, I believe weather and turnovers coulda had an influence on that, as well as P-O getting a pick 6 right off the bat against Clearfield and a heavy dose of homecooking....penalties in the Clearfield game were 10 to 2 and alot of the Bisons penalties either aided P-O drives(couple on 3rd down) or killed Bison drives. Not making excuses P-O won . But I believe if P-O and Clearfield played 10 times, Clearfield wins 8 or 9...and on the other side if MC and P-O were to play 10 times I believe P-O would probably win 7 or 8.

My guess for the playoff finish in AA

1. Tyrone
2. Richland
3. P-O
4. Forest Hills (If the Rangers end up 8-2 they flip with P-O)
5. LV
6.PC
7. Central
8. Bedford

I believe in my calculations, Tyrone will finish ahead of Richland points wise if they get past P-O and run the table to 9-1. They have the AAAA win over Central Mountain, AAA win over Bellefonte, and quality wins over AA Central, Philipsburg, and Bellwood-Antis.

Tyrone Breakdown:
1. Bellwood 80 pts, plus 5 wins for 130 pts
2. Lost to Mifflin County
3. Bellefonte 120 pts, plus 1 wins for 130 pts
4. Huntingdon 100 pts, plus 1 wins for 110 pts
5. Central 100 pts, plus 3 wins for 130 pts
6. Central Mountain 140 pts, plus 1 win for 150 pts
7. Bald Eagle 100 pts, plus 2 wins for 120 pts
8. Philipsburg-Osceola 100 pts, plus 5 wins for 150 pts
9. Penns Valley 100 pts, plus 2 wins for 120 pts
10. Juniata 100 pts, plus 4 wins for 140 pts

BEA/Bellefonte play each other later this year for a guaranteed 10 more points
Huntingdon/Penns Valley play for 10 more later this year
Huntingdon/Philipsburg play each other later this year for 10 more
Philipsburg/Central play this week for 10 more
Juniata/Central Mountain play for 10 more
----
Bellwood should run the table for 30 more points, may fall to JV for only 20 though
Central should top Everett for 10 more in week 10
Juniata should probably handle Tri-Valley for 10 more points as well
----
Philipsburg could beat Ligonier Valley, but since they already lost to a Heritage team I doubt they do.

Tyrone is guaranteed 1230 points if they run out the season
- with Bellwood winning out, Central over Everett, and Juniata over Tri-Valley they should earn another 50 for 1280 TOTAL

Richland breakdown:
1. Forest Hills 100 pts, plus 5 wins for 150 pts
2. Cambria Heights 100 pts, plus 2 wins for 120 pts
3. Bedford 100 pts, plus 3 wins for 130 pts
4. Lost to Johnstown
5. Bishop McCort 80 pts, plus 5 wins for 130 pts
6. Somerset 100 pts, plus 2 wins for 120 pts
7. Westmont-Hilltop 100 pts, plus 1 win for 110 pts
8. Bishop Guilfoyle 80 pts, plus 1 wins for 90 pts
9. Penn Cambria 100 pts, plus 5 wins for 150 pts
10. Central Cambria 100 pts

Central Cambria/BG winner gets them 10
Central Cambria/Bedford winner gets them 10
Bedford/Somerset winner gets them 10
Bedford/PC winner gets them 10
PC/WH winner gets them 10
PC/Forest Hills winner gets them 10
Forest Hills/McCort winner gets them 10
Forest Hills/Somerset winner gets them 10
Somerset/Cambria Heights winner gets them 10
Heights/McCort winner gets them 10
Heights/WH winner gets them 10
----
Somerset should beat BC for 10 more
Heights should beat BC for 10 more

Richland is guaranteed 1210 points if they run out the season
- with Somerset and Heights gaining wins over BC they'll be left with 1230 points, even if Forest Hills runs the table and tops Johnstown they'll only have 1240.

My guess:

1. Tyrone
2. Richland
3. Ligonier Valley
4. Forest Hills/PC winner
5. Philipsburg/Central winner
6. Forest Hills/PC loser
7. Philipsburg/Central loser
8. Bedford/Chestnut Ridge winner

I know there are four LONG weeks to go, but I if I looked at it right if the playoffs started this week it would be Tyrone/Forest Hills 3-6 matchup. How interesting.

Well A is a tad bit more confusing.
1. There can be up to 16 teams that enter.
2. Not every .500 team will enter automatically.
3. it seems A bracket has been holding pretty steady at 13 teams for the past few years, likely to be the case again......

23 teams.....

Ferndale. Williamsburg. Homer Center. all are 0-6 and they are out.
.......
20 teams.
Purchase Line and Conemaugh Valley are 1-5. They are done as well.
Carroll and Guilfoyle both sit at 1-5, and being that they play a tougher schedule than most "A" teams they may play in the playoffs. Neither team can win out though, so that won't happen this year.
........
16 teams.....the group of 2-4 teams, basically they must win out.
Northern Cambria-winnable games, except for the game at Penns Manor.
Blacklick Valley- games with North Star and Berlin end their playoff hopes.
Claysburg-Kimmel-dount they'll beat Mo Valley and Glendale. Also done.
.........
13 teams

--United at 3-3, should beat Northern Cambria and Ferndale.lose to Ligonier. 5-4 Playoff eligible

--Saltsburg at 3-3, likely losing to Penns Manor and Marion Center if I had to guess. Probably end at 4-5.

--Southern Huntingdon 3-3,games with NBC, Tussey, and Mo Valley. My guess is 4-5.

--Portage 3-3, lose to Chestnut Ridge. Handle Valley and Ferndale. 5-4. Playoff eligible.

--Marion Center should beat Homer and Saltsburg, likely losing to Blairsville. 5-4 playoff eligible.

--Glendale 4-2, lose to Bellwood. beat Claysburg and Tussey. 6-3.

--West Branch 4-2. In danger of losing all three remaining games, Juniata Valley,Mo Valley, and NBC. i think they do, 4-5.

--Mo Valley 4-2, win out against Southern Hunt. Claysburg, and West Branch. 7-2.

These 5 teams are in for sure.
--Blairsville 5-1, lose to LV, win the other 2. 7-2.
--Penns Manor 5-1, should win the 2 Heritage games left, no clue with Bishop Walsh. 7-2 finish.
--Belllwood wins out 8-1.
--Juniata Valley finishes 7-2.
--McCort finishes 6-3.

1. Bellwood 8-1
2. Juniata Valley 7-2
3. Blairsville 7-2
4. Penns Manor 7-2
5. Moshannon Valley 7-2
6. Bishop McCort 6-3
7. Glendale 6-3
8. Portage 5-4
9. United 5-4
10. Marion Cneter 5-4

no clue on the seedings, just did off of record.

What a joke this is. Should be in with D9. That would make 6 teams and top four make playoffs. As it is now, top two in D9 play and only two in D6 play. I highly doubt if Bellefonte decides to play a game against Johnstown.

Ghost...only 12 make the playoffs in A now.

Not that big of a deal since as you pointed out, there are only like 13 teams with a shot anyways.

1. Bellwood 8-1
2. Juniata Valley 7-2
3. Blairsville 7-2
4. Penns Manor 7-2
5. Moshannon Valley 7-2
6. Bishop McCort 6-3
7. Glendale 6-3
8. Portage 5-4
9. United 5-4
10. Marion Center 5-4
11. West Branch 4-5
12. Southern Huntingdon 4-5 or Heritage 4-5 team(s)?
