Re: township game
Well the Point has great history and tradition, it has been home to many great games, and teams. My Dad tells me when he played for McCort, Johnstown of course shared the stadium, but East Conemaugh and Ferndale played there as well.
But my biggest gripes are as follows.....
The Bleachers in Right Field were a nice addition, but the issue there is that they are too low and the RF fence blocks the view for most of the seats. I'm sure there is a way they can put down some cement or some blocks and raise the seating, would provide copnvience for both Football and Baseball.
The Press Box, of course. It is so far out of place, its almost ridiculous. It is really difficult to see when the ball is down the other end of the field, and this basically is a product of the City deciding to keep the light towers(that have killed a few people) in place, and build the stadium around them. Don't be cheap, and buy new lights. Simple as that.
The Stands that run down the RF line were built with a huge cutout, for Handicap seating, and standing room, but it takes out plenty of seats for no reason. I get the concept, but it takes away more seats than anything.
The Football Scoreboard, the former baseball scoreboard is hard to read. Change the lights, and maybe make it to a Football formatted scoreboard. It still looks like a Baseball scoreboard. I think they could replace it.
Behind Home Plate is a joke. It looks so unprofessional, and it looks unfinished. They need to build a permanent structure, like a brick entrance, or some more stands with a nice press box. Make it looks nice at least.
And basically thats my main gripes with that. And I could be wrong, but the city got a pretty reasonable amount of money for the stadium, and it looks like the used about 1/3 of the funding they got.
The LF wall to the Left, Center wall is gorgeous. The Brick work is spot on, and the cut in scoreboard looks great. From the street, its done really well the whole way through. The Dugouts are also nice and professionally done, and the playing surface is really good. The setting with the inclined place, buildings, and mountains in the background make it a pretty cool place to watch a game.

Re: township game
NO PLACE TO PARK! And Why should a Somerset County team host a game at Cambria County?

Re: township game
The parking isn't awful, you have to know where to go.
I mean County isn't really an issue, Say Windber Stadium shut down, and Windber had the option of playing at Somerset High School or Richland High School, Do you really think they would prefer to go out of their way to Somerset, or right up the street to Richland just to stay in their own county?
And I mapped it out Its equal distance. From Conemaugh Township to the Point Stadium is 23 minutes, and to Somerset HS its 25 minutes.

Re: township game
So if it's equal distance for the home fans, what's the difference to them? So let's make it CLOSER for the away team, right? Isn't that the point of "home field advantage" once teams make inter-district playoffs? That is, having the home team playing closer to home and the away team having farther to go?

Do you really think Township is at all worried about the ravenous fans of Conemaugh Valley?

ghost i am not sure if jtown or mccort are playing there maybe you know but because the AD comes from there maybe that had something to do with itCrimson's Ghost wrote:Any reason they chose Somerset's field as opposed to maybe Point Stadium? I'm just curious, I don't find the Point to be a good football field, but other teams have moved games there. Just wondering.
Re: township game
Play it any way you want, but you're NOT going to make it easier for the visiting team to get to the game than the home team. PLUS, I'm sure it costs a heck of a lot more to rent Point Stadium than Somerset's field.

McCort is in Sidman and Johnstown is Ebensburg. I don't think Home Field really played an advantage into picking Somerset.
maybe costs, who knows? The Point is rented out for a Blacklick Valley game each year, I think Ferndale has played there recently as well.
Moldy you always want to make everything into an argument, haha I seriously just wanted to know if the reasoning was out there. My guess would have been pricing as well.
I know way back when, when the Johnstown Johnies were playing into early September contending for the Frontier League Championship
McCort would occasionally get bumped. McCort always used Windber Stadium as their home if they had too. I kinda forgot about that.

Re: township game
yes we cover the cost of the horse at each game, but as the condition of the field we only got him out 2 times. when it gets bad the school cancels his appearanceEl-Moldo wrote:Do they have to pay for the use of that horse?
