Why not try something new?
Troll Pantherlair message boards anyday, and you will see the same topics without fail. On Campus Stadium, and Script Uniforms. Those are two sure things you can always see on there.
I have ideas or proposals that I would love to see that may never happen.
As I have said before, this whole Pitt not putting people in the stands is not just a Pittsburgh problem.
Georgia Tech, Boston College, Arizona State, Miami, Rutgers, and Maryland all have issues. Anyway you shape it those teams are going to have trouble filling their stadium like a Penn State, Georgia, Nebraska ect...
I think Pitt's attendence should and could be better, but there has to be some sort of truth behind the city urban problem with College Football. It is not just happening here.

Pitt is not getting an on campus stadium, at least not anytime soon. That is that, and some people need to understand that. We have Heinz Field. We are going to have to deal with it. Do we shrink the size of Heinz for Pitt games? Like tarps over the Bleacher seats, or something of that nature. Miami had tarps Thursday Night if you noticed. Some are for it, some are against it. I do not know how I feel about it.
My proposal first off is to stop seperating the student section. As it stands now they get the corner of the endzone and 4 sections in the upper deck. That was filled for maybe 2-3 games this year, but the Weeknight games, the upper deck was not used. But in big games, you want as good of a student section as possible, right? They are the loudest fans. I say Pitt's entire student body occupys the endzone, right next to the band. They are loud for big games, and it may attract more, so they don't fear they will get stuck in the very last row in the upper deck. Other schools have their students in one central location and do not split them up. I think we should look no further than the Oakland Zoo. It is a difference making student section that takes up prime seating. They help win games. Its just a thought, but for big games I think it will make for a louder stadium when big games occur.
Also my second proposal wouldn't sit well with old school Pitt Alums and traditional fans. But I will say this, this is not old school Football anymore. The game is certainly changing. I propose going to the absolute wild uniforms along the lines of Oregon. 3-4 helmets. 10 jersyes 6-7 pants. whatever it takes. I know they seem dumb to older college football fans, but its not for the fans. College recruits definitely notice when a team has the newest stuff. They notice when a team has ground breaking uniforms, and they want to play there. Pitt has always recruited fairly well, but I'm thinking something along the lines of getting top notch talent. Pitt's campus is at its best its been in years, the South Side facility has gone through a moderization by Graham. A lot more flat screens, iPads ect....And Heinz Field is a place where kids could want to play. Hell we have gotten some pretty good players over the years with a dull atmosphere. Maryland had some awful uniforms, but HS Football players likd that kind of crap, and one way or another everyone that watched the game or Sportscenter had an opinion.
And most importantly with these uniforms, What do they have to lose? This is the third year in these digs, we owe them no sort of tradition. And Nike would love to have another team to toy around with and create new things. Pitt should be Oregon East. Seriously. New Coach, New Conference,New Look. lets do it.
Over the years....
From the Glory years....

the Dino=Cat look with Champion Brand

The Dino-Cat logo with Nike....

We now dropped ther sBurgh and went back to being Pitt.
Now off to Adidas look 1....

Adidas Look 2

And the present day back to Nike.....

Here's one rendition they could toy around with.... http://www.flickr.com/photos/69190568@N ... 291151797/
I'm not wild about them, but certainly something to look into. Could have uniforms with both color schemes. Certainly a Blue Helmet, and a white helmet. Could go wild on jersyes and pants to.
Some teams have their look defined. USC, Georgia,Penn State, Alabama ect....Pitt gave up on their look in 1996. Time to try something new. What can it hurt?

Re: Why not try something new?
In my opinion, Pitt did have a classic look. The color combination of Blue and the mustard gold. The Script helmet that added stickers for good plays. No other team looked like that. You turned on the TV and you knew it was Pitt. Now you turn on the TV and Pitt looks like a poor combination of Navy and Notre Dame

Re: Why not try something new?
exactly, like I said the gave up on their look in 1996. I love that look.
Pitt and the St. Louis Rams need that color scheme back.

Re: Why not try something new?
I would cheer for Pitt if they used those black and gold unis you proposed...they look like the 'burgh.
I completely agree with you. Pitt needs something "different" to attract kids to play there. Uni's is an easy way to do it.

Re: Why not try something new?
Do you really want recruits who's final decision is based on a teams uniform????

Re: Why not try something new?
I could care less why they choose Pitt. As long as they do.
If having 500 uniform combinations wins us games.....I'll take it. Oregon's facilities and modern uniforms and sleek style is getting them recruits. There is no question about it.
Graham's offense CAN work here, he has the fast tempo style, the innovative sets or whatever the hell you want to call it. Lets go the whole 9 yards with it.
I'm ALL for doing something dramatically different. I don't know about you, but I was there Wednesday. I'll be there Saturday. And everything about out game days seem blah! Times are changing, we should just keep up with the times and be progressive rather than sitting in the dust.
Pitt has great tradition with a lot of things, but they can mesh that with some new age ideas.
Sorry, but 22,000 for conference games on Wednesday nights isn't exactly fun for me.
At least with the ACC we won't have that crap.

Re: Why not try something new?
Looks like your attempt to generate conversation about Pitt football failed Crimson. You should know by now that you are the only one who discusses Pitt. Moldy and Titan don't have much to add to this thread
Re: Why not try something new?
Moldy,
As long as the recruit meets what I as a coach is looking for academically, athletically, and has good character, I wouldn't care if he picked my school because he likes how the toilets flush in the locker room. As long as he picks my school.

Re: Why not try something new?
I already know what I need to know about Pitt. I do, however, enjoy informing the Nits about their school though.

very true abpk. The ins and outs of programs can attract some kids. Uniforms, facilities, equipment ect....
