I think its pretty clear, this is not the PSU hire for good. This guy is a stop gap, a guy that will try and hold things together and get back to football. Will he have any sort of success? I doubt it, but he might win 8 games a year.

Saban, Richt,Petersen ect ect....very wishful thinking. But in 5 years, I bet they can go out and make a good hire.

But let me ask you this, if you are a top prospect from Pennsylvania what program are you looking to go to, Pitt or Penn State?

For instance, next year's recruiting haul....

Robert Foster is a 6-3 Athlete from Central Valley of the WPIAL who will be a top 15 player in the country. He's in the mold of Clemson's top freshman, Sammy Watkins. He has offers from USC,Oregon, Florida,Ohio State ect ect.......

Patrick Kugler will be a top 40 player is an Offensive tackle from North Allegheny. He has 20 offers, at least one from each major conference.

As the two top in-state recruits, Do you think either will go to Pitt or Penn State, or just head out of state? Pitt's hire looks credible for the offenses he has been running in Wisconsin. The offensive coordinator is well respected line coach. Pitt has the potential to put together some nice offenses in the coming seasons. Penn State's hire has good NFL credentials, but he coached a 3 time Super Bowl winning QB, how hard could it have been? Its not like O'Brien leaving will affect what New England is doing. I would hope he goes out and gets a bunch of well connected college coaches. He's needs inside recruiting tracks and familiarity with the college game. Things will be interesting for recruiting in the coming seasons, especially since Meyer is at Ohio State. Pitt and Penn State need to prove early that they can play or Urban will be running PA.

If im robert foster, i go anywhere but Pitt or Penn State. Any recruit that wants to play big time college football baffles me that goes to Pitt as well as Penn State. I'm kidding. Any athlete that does not go to Pitt is an idiot!!!!

If you look at the past histories of Chryst and O'Brien, Chryst certainly has relied on the running game in his past more so than O'Brien. The running game has been a staple for the Badgers lo these many years. With Chryst and his o-line buddy staying together, I'm sure the running game will be important in his offense.

You guys are making a lot of great points. I do not think this is a stop-gap measure, though, Crimson.
The fact that he's coached any quarterbacks outside of state college gives me hope.
That right there is exactly what I was thinking as well, Ham. You guys are only looking at McGloin and Bolden. Remember that Jones is still ons cholarship, and Morningweg's kid is about to join that QB unit. BOTH of them are better than McGloin and Bolden. What we also fail to take into account here is that Joe Paterno himself had academic restrictions on his own players. Joe had high standards, and to be completely honest with you, he had higher academic requirements for the football team than the dang university did. That is factual, I dont have anything to back that up (documents, etc), but it is the truth. O'Brien will ease up on that stuff. Paul Jones will be eligible.

I sincerely hope we never hear another word about any of those deadbeats on that old staff. McQueary, Kenney, Anderson, Thomas, Hall, Jay, please move into a studio apartment and start a reality TV show about how you are all completely useless and are upset that Joe is gone and none of you losers can find another gig. Those guys deserved to be fired 15 years ago. Paterno's insane stubbornness used to remind me of my dad. You know what, my dad would have SHOT every one of those deadbeats about 5 years ago. I am so incredibly grateful for O'Brien right now. If Bill O'Brien gets fired tomorrow, at least he kicked those losers out to the curb where they belonged. Bill Kenney and Dick Anderson are the worst offensive line coaches in the Big Ten. Jay Paterno is without question the absolute worst assistant football coach in Division I football. No one else has had as many monumental failures as Anderson, Kenney, and Jay Paterno. Look at the talent that these 3 jack***es have had to mold, and all those kids fell flat on their faces. And then Jay has the audacity to hint around that Morelli wasn't any good. Guess what, %$&(*$, it is your job to make him better. Those QBs NEVER get better!!!!!

The body of work that Kenney, Anderson, and Jay have given Penn State the past decade is seriously embarrassing.

None we have 2 commits who are wavering b/c they were committed to Bill Kenney and not Penn State. You know what, fellas, have a nice ride. Go to Ohio State. Go to Pitt, or New Hampshire, or UAB, or wherever else. Good luck to you. If you support Bill Kenney, we shouldn't want you anyways.

I guarantee you that if nothing else, Penn State will have a MUCH better coaching staff, man to man, than we did the past decade. And if these Friedgen rumors are true, look out.
