Berlin - Portage game
any comments on Coach Gouse comments about berlinthrowing ahalfbackpass while leading 14-7 inthe 4th qtr.We willremember this. they stacked the boxwith10guys.Just trying to put a game away while up1 score imo.was not at game but what dou think. CRYBABYS
Re: Berlin - Portage game
How much time was left in the 4th quarter? With only a 7 point lead, that surely wasn't rubbing it in. I do remember, however, alot of 56-7 wins by Gouse and his team over the years. Did they ever call off the dogs when they had the chance? Was the one Kephart thrown out this week? Or didn't he play?

Anything that allows you to take a two score lead isn't "rubbing it in" It is called "winning the game"

Re: Berlin - Portage game
The score was 20 - 7 when the halfback pass was thrown(not one score) with around 1:30 left in the game on a 1st and 10. Portage had Zero timeouts left. Caleb Kephart did NOT play as he was suspended because of getting ejected in the North Star game.
Yankeessuck you're more than welcome to comment about Portage all you want. However can you at least proofread your post before you hit submit. I'm not tryin to be a super grammer nazi or anything but, good God that was horrible to try and read.

I still see anything wrong with that. 20-7 is still a game, I don't care how much time is left. People need to get some thicker skin.
Re: Berlin - Portage game
That was not rubbing it in at all, The kids work hard everyday at practice to come out and play on friday night. They come on the field every week to win the game by as much as possible. It was a great win for Berlin and they deserve it.

This was not rubbing it in but if GreenMachine is describing the situation correctly, it sure doesn't seem like a smart play by Berlin. The ball could have been intercepted and run back, especially if this halfback is not too used to passing. Then a Portage onside kick and who knows what might happen.

Re: Berlin - Portage game
Through the years, I've seen plenty of coaches running up scores a/o leaving the first units in with games well in hand. In my opinion, that's bad coaching. If I'm a coach, I would want my underclassman getting as many reps in as possible. Not taking advantage of situations where you can do just that is being shortsighted. You'll be depending on these same players in the future...get 'em some reps.
I see how things can snowball though. One coach feels another rolled the score up on them so given the chance they want paypack. Coaches may not admit it but it happens. If I'm coaching, I take the high road and any chance that I can get my young players some pt... I'm taking it.

If anyone paid attention to this play, the qb actually threw the pass. It was a direct snap to the rb with a handoff to the starting qb. Not a classless move at all only up 2 scores and Berlin had a rough time holding on to the ball in the running game. Get over it and worry about Shade this week. Calling timeouts in the 2nd quarter to get that 35 point mark before the half is classless and was common practice in Mustang country several years ago when they were good.

Oh it was? Didn't know running the ball every single play the second half with second string players is considered running it up. As far as that play who knows maybe they wanted to get some practice with the play but the game was clearly over at that point.wingit wrote:If anyone paid attention to this play, the qb actually threw the pass.
