I don't think the coaches actually hate each other. There was the handshake issue with Salem/Bailey. I think it was Bailey's first or second year. Richland had no line to run the ball, so they had a roll out and shoot offense. They has a promising receiver returning and McCort recruited him to Osborne St. Bailey wasn't happy and won't shake Salem's hand after the game.

Also I think Coach Regan was on the crushers staff at one time.

Yep, Regan is a McCort grad and taught and coached there for a few seasons.

My freshman year of 2006 was Regan's last at McCort, left for Richland in June of '07. And ramfan hey this "promising receiver" may have transferred to McCort, but, we gave Richland the Rizzos. I think you guys won that trade!

We got (John) Rizzo because we had a wrestling team. Now that McCort is co-oping with Westmont in wrestling I don't think that will happen again. I still can't believe that Westmont's AD at the time made that deal.

Rizzo started at Richland before he was in high school, I doubt wrestling had that big of a factor in it. In fact I know it did not. But I mean hey if a kid went from a public school to McCort because McCort offered something the public school didn't he would have been recruited. So if a kid goes from private to public for the same reason that means he was recruited too right? So the basic math says Rizzo was recruited! ;)

:ymapplause: Jack, you gotta love your posts no other person can make me laugh and piss me off at the same time. Wrestling had everything to do with it. It about the opportunity, He is what a 2 or 3 time state champion he is not going to go to a high school that doesn't offer wrestling. If McCort has a water polo team and Richland doesn't and a kid want to play water polo I don't blame the kid or call it recruiting if he moves to that school. That is why the co-op agreement with Westmont is so puzzling. Wrestling was the one thing Westmont had to keep a boy at Westmont. Now a kid can go to McCort to school, play for "now" a better football team and go on the hill to wrestle. A great opportunity for a kid. If he leaves Westmont and goes to McCort. :-o

I'm not saying whether or not that Steve Gates was recruited by BM, but Salem was instrumental in allowing Gates to transfer from Richland to McCort JUST for his senior year. Soooo....after basketball season was over as a junior, Gates came to BM in the spring of his junior year. This was smart, just because what if Gates would have had to sit out for awhile. If he would have had to sit out, and transferred during the summer, then he might not have been allowed to play football, the main reason for the transfer. AND why couldn't Salem have said NO to the transfer. He didn't do it the year before with Billy Bruce (who transferred ONLY for his senior year), so he sure wasn't gonna do it now. You can't blame Bailey for hard feelings when his best player wasn't discouraged from transferring JUST for HIS senior year by the coach who wanted him too. This, I'm sure led to the infamous onside kick incident.

Johnny wasn't the first Rizzo to attend Richland, keep that in mind. Obviously the family had reasons for switching. I have no ill will towards them. They did what they thought was best for their family. I mean Johnny was a three time state champ and got a full ride to Temple. He could have gone to any school and done some impressive things. Was wrestling the total reason, I don't believe so. Was it a big one? Yeah.
