Re: University of Pitt-Stop?
Good points about Alvarez, Kirk. Not often that you see a person in the cutthroat business of athletics/coaching with integrity like that. I am pleased that Chryst is staying.
That being said, and on your cue...
I am sure that BOB is kicking himself too, BIG TIME. Kicking himself a lot more than Chryst is kicking himself.
BOB took that job and not knowing about the sanctions ahead of time, which makes it a dead end job for the next 5 seasons or so. His agent should have seen it coming and put a clause in that contract allowing him to leave if NCAA sanctions were implemented. Then you'd be stuck with some retread or Tom Bradley. As it is now, if some NFL team doesn't buy him out, BOB is stuck there will be competing with DuquesneU, Robert Morris, St. Francis (PA), IUP, and Bucknell for recruits for the next several years.
BOB's stock has reached its peak RIGHT NOW, because the media painted him as the second coming of Vince Lombardi and some kind of savior for going 8-4 against an awful schedule. If he can, BOB needs to capitalize on this bandwagoning by the media and needs to get out of there in the middle of the night. Not tomorrow, but RIGHT NOW. If he doesn't, he's stuck there for a long time, because it's all downhill from here.
Worse than BOB kicking himself, BRADLEY, JAY, MCQUEARY, CURLEY, SHULTZ, and SPANIER must REALLY be kicking themselves for entirely different reasons, huh?

Which would tell you either Bob did not do enough research or the sanctions were unwarranted and unexpected for something that was a criminal matter. You should know. You said yourself Emmert wouldn't didn't have the place to do anything. At any rate, Penn State on sanctions becomes Pitt. I can deal with it for a few years. I'm betting Penn State has a better record again than Pitt does again next year. Care to bet?

Good to see integrity in a place that is truly lacking in that department.
I'll take some of that PSU/Pitt better record action. Don't forget free agency started up again.

Wisconsin or Pitt is lacking integrity?Crimson's Ghost wrote:Good to see integrity in a place that is truly lacking in that department.

You know who will transfer from PSU? Maybe Bill Belton who won't start and Curtis Dukes who doesn't play. Any key players will be a surprise to me (unless O'brien leaves) Don't forget Pitt is actually playing in a better conference (although not by much) and while people made fun of Sunseri he actually had a good year. Penn State now has a 2 game lead over Pitt with Sanctions. The question is will Pitt be able to close the deficit over the next 4 years?

Re: University of Pitt-Stop?
I said that Emmert WOULDN'T do anything, not that it wasn't his place.
Typical PSU...Kirk is living proof that their fan base still doesn't get it. It's Cultists who personify why the program should have been gone.
The Cult is still worried about banging their chests about Wins and Losses, not about the LIES and FELONIES and CHEATING and CRIMES AGAINST CHILDREN IN SHOWERS A FEW PACES FROM THE EMPEROR'S CASTLE THAT WERE BLATANTLY COVERED UP BY PATERNO AND HIS UNDERLINGS...ALL in the name of FALSELY GENERATED FAME, MANUFACTURED LIES, FAILED EXPERIMENTS, and MONEY.
I'm surprised that the NCAA did what they did. Instead of being thankful and contrite, PSU plays the victim with Franco and Lubrano the Clowns leading rallies (for which 50 people show up), students toppling over news vans, the Paternos issuing statements, people praying at the site of removed statue, and selling t-shirts with the "C" in NCAA being represented by a Communist sicle and hammer.
Yet as PSU plays the victim, their arrogant fanbase still doesn't get it, and now all of a sudden BOB is a savior, a reincarnation of Vince Lombaerdi, and a hot commodity for going 8-4 against horse poopy.
Even though they now have won just 8 games since 1998, PSU got off virtually Scot Free...Why do you think Erickson tripped over himself running to the table to sign for those sanctions? He knew it was the best deal they would get and wanted to discourage further digging.
If the NCAA had any integrity and courage, they would have cleansed the entire cesspool of a football program by shutting the whole thing down for for 5 full seasons, then bring PSU football back, first for a few years as a CLUB, then into the PSAC where they belong with all the other state schools.
What would the rivalry game with Bloomsburg have been called? The I-80 Bowl?

Even if backups are the ones that transfer, it hurts the depth.
I think Pitt's recruiting will really get going in the next couple of seasons.

Crimson no offense, but Pitt's recruiting was supposed to be really good for the last 20 years! Remember the Wanny Wall?
Titan.....Look how wound up I got you. I probably upped your blood pressure 40 points. Go take your blood pressure medicine ya little bowling ball! Are you taking the bet or not? Penn State vs Pitt. Better winning percentage in 2013.

Pitt's recruiting was top heavy with Wannstedt. I'm looking for more complete classes. The WPIAL is supposed to be really good next season, hopefully being in the ACC will open up some more doors for recruiting. Plus, the staff's Midwestern connection will help.
Ideally, the big boys from the Midwest, speed from the South, and try to nail down the blue chips guys from home.

Re: University of Pitt-Stop?
Once again, these dark times competing with Robert Morris, St. Francis, and IUP in recruiting are going to kick in when?
They already finished 8-4 last season. Next year have a team with a leading rusher (soph), receiver (soph), B1G freshman of the year, top TEs (all fresh), most of the OL and DBs, and kicker/punter returning. Committed are top QB and WR. They should at least field a competitive team next year and the following year. That gets them 3/4 the way the sanctions. Sky has really got to fall in fast to be at the same level as St Francis the last year. Face it bro, things aren't going to be near as bad as originally anticipated.
