Re: D6SN District 5 Boys A preview
Great post! Couldn't have been said any better. Gonna be some good games!
Re: D6SN District 5 Boys A preview
Shanksville vs. Hyndman should be a very good game. Of course Hyndman has to beat Fannett first. Shanksville has the size advantage on Hyndman but Brad Torbet is a great scorer who makes his own plays and theyre a lights out team from 3 point land.

Should be some good playoff games. Strange things usually seem to happen in District 5 A playoffs.
Re: D6SN District 5 Boys A preview
Berlin better not overlook rockwood, and shade better not overlook the winner of that game because both teams when they come to play can beat anybody. Nice preview though and I agree with the picks especially with a healthy talented shade team that is rolling now again after a couple big wins at shanksville for all the marbles and at upj vs a tough ct team. Shade played at upj over the years with these same kids and they all have experience on the big stage which means a lot when playing on that court in front of that atmosphere. That will definitely help them if they get there, but you have to take 1 game at a time because playoffs are you lose you are out. Can't ever overlook a team. They may change their game plan and catch you off balance for that 1 night. They have been in the west pac championships, district finals, and at the upj tourney playing tons of games there with all these seniors. That will help them.

I dont think any team should overlook another team come playoff time, but your right it does happen. Berlin better not look past Rockwood, Rockwood has gotten the bettter of Berlin the last 2 years so Thursdays game could be a toss up.... Shade is playing very well right now and is going to be hard to beat.
Re: D6SN District 5 Boys A preview
Yah, that is what I was saying above in my post. Rockwood has come on. And shade did play berlin without fyock in that double ot game that shade won. Also fyock wasn't 100% when they won at shanksville by 11 and neither was walkers knee. But they both looked healthy at upj vs ct the other night. If shade takes 1 game at a time and plays their style of ball, they should win the district. Also nash walker finally started to shoot and had like 13 points when they left him, medva, pyles, and kiser wide open. Those boys don't get much credit, but all drained 3's and other baskets in the ct game. Shade has 5 kids that can score double digits and all five can hit from the outside or drive for layups. That team plays tough defense also which is what wins games against good teams like ct. Shades only weakness that I see is rebounding, but now that walker is down low and fyock is back, that picked up to better the team. They were only getting 1 shot and ct and shanksville were getting 3 shots. Won't win big games doing that! Better start crashing the boards and practicing boxing out defensively because burns, sotosky, fisher and others were getting 2nd and 3rd shots. So was shanksville and wilt drove right down the middle for uncontested layups as did boyer. They need to play better help defense on the better drivers and box out defensively, and crash the offensive end and they will win districts.

I hope to see a Hyndman vs. Shanksville match up in the 2nd round. I think this will be a very interesting game depending on which Hyndman team shows up. There have been a few games where they look like they could compete with anyone in the district and other nights they have really struggled. I saw them compete with one of the top teams in the Cumberland area (Bishop Walsh) for 3 quarters. BW's starting line-up has 4 guys over 6-3, their starting center is about 6-4 240 lbs, he is an invited walk-on at WVU for football. They dug themselves a hole early but were able to compete with them the rest of the game. They also looked good in a loss at Mountain Ridge (another tough team out of MD). Then there were teams they struggled against like Rockwood. Will be interesting to see what they can do especially if they get hot from the outside.

I saw Walsh up at McCort, that kid is a beast. Very physical player. McCort was up 20 on them, he fouled out and they pushed it to OT. Their kids play well in afour guard look. They didn't seem to have a lot of height outside of him.
Re: D6SN District 5 Boys A preview
Shanksville will slow the game down on them with their boring half court offense and play physical defense on them. This is how they beat teams by lull them to sleep and use 2 minutes for 1 chance at a layup and they all crash the boards hard. Then if you drive in on them, they have depth to hammer you to use their fouls to put you to the line. You only get 1 shot on shanksville because they are well coached and box out. They carry that boring physical type of game plan out and come away winning. It works. That is when they listen and stay in it. Against shade they quit doing it and that is when shade went on a run to take over a very close game for 3 quarters. So if hyndman can hit the outside shot and play a slowed down game and shoot foul shots good, they might have a chance. Shanksville isn't very talented with only 3 scorers and two only ave. about 10 points a game, but are disciplined most of the time and are well coached. Slade is their guy and he came on strong since seeing him early on at the somerset tourney. It will be a low scoring game because that is the way the vikings stay in games and give themselves a chance to win against more talent. Sort of like southern fulton does against teams.
