Re: Western Pa. Class "A" Basketball
If BC plays the way they did against JV, no one in D6 is beating them, BG included. Playing down wont be an issue as they go further in the brackets, as there are no bad teams at this point in the season.

When was the last time district 9 made an impact in the state tournament?
Re: Western Pa. Class "A" Basketball
"Playing down" was probably a bad choice of words. More like allowing teams to hang around longer than they should. Haven't seen it in the first 2 D6 games. Both were over in the first 2 minutes.

Lincoln Park is single A so they most likely will get the district 5 champ

2006: Elk County Catholic goes 33-0 and wins state championship (also beat the Andy Ostach and Adam Highberger led Blairsville team in the semis)
2007: DuBois Central Catholic loses state title game to Reading Central Catholic (D3)
2009: Elk County Catholic loses to eventual state champ Kennedy Catholic in the semifinals
2012: Ridgway loses to Lincoln Park in state semifinals
If I recall correctly, the last time a D6 class A team made it to the state semifinals was 2006 when they lost to ECC. They also lost to Kennedy Catholic in the semis in 2005.

Re: Western Pa. Class "A" Basketball
d9 has been very good at boys Single A basketball in recent history. ECC had the big run but they've had numerous teams that have made nice runs. I think I remember a few years ago, they had 3 of the final four I think in the west in Single A (think I remember that; might have been only 2). Johnsonburg and Ridgway would both give BC all they could handle. Going in, the fictional line on BC playing either of these teams would be very close.

District 9 for class A typically is better than District 5/6 Ball. I got to see Ridgway play McCort last season, they came in and beat McCort by 5. They were tough, and very well coached. McCort has played Dubois CC through the years as well, they have had some good teams. D9A is quality

Clairton beat Lincoln Park in the wpial semis last night. D7 champ will either be Clairton or Vincentian Academy.ShadePanther98 wrote:Lincoln Park is single A so they most likely will get the district 5 champ
Re: Western Pa. Class "A" Basketball
Like Crimson said, D9 A ball is solid. They love their basketball up there. The Johnsonburg semifinal team and ECC state champion team had some really good players.
Calvin Grumley (Johnsonburg) is the all time leading scorer for D9 with over 2,000. Heckuva a baseball player too. Went to PSU on a baseball scholarship if I remember correctly after leading the Rams on the mound to a state finals appearance.
Jesse Bosnik (ECC) had over 2,000, went to St. Bonaventure on a baseball scholarship, and is in the Dodgers system.
I'm sure there's been more but those two and Garret Heath from Keystone stick out on my mind the most.
zonebreaker, not sure there was a particular year but DuBois CC and Elk CC have made some deep runs. Aaron Straub (Elk County) has, from what I understand, a great system from elementary school all the way up to high school. This year is the first year in a long time the Crusaders won't be in the PIAA playoffs.

Just a side note. You mentioned Calvin Grumley, all time leading scorer for D9. He was putting on a show in the Rec hall pick up games at PSU. Gets challenged to a game of one on one with Taylor Battle. He won.
