2nd round

Post by Tapp »

Any local teams win a second round game recently? I know Johnstown did in 05.

2005 & 2006: Blairsville went to the Western Final and lost.
2010: Tussey Mountain beat Cornell (D7) and Rocky Grove (D10) before losing to eventual state champion Sewickley Academy.

You mentioned Johnstown, these are the only recent ones I can remember, and they aren't that recent with the exception of Tussey Mountain. Conemaugh Township and Northern Cambria have easier roads to win two if they both win today. AA traditionally has been dominated by the WPIAL. Very tough to advance through. This year, with the exception of Beaver Falls and GCC they aren't as strong IMO. BUT, West Middlesex is very good and I wouldn't count out Jeanette. I know Crimson has McCort coming out of that section but unless they play perfect ball I think it will be very difficult.

McCort has the ability to play with GCC one night on the road, and that same ability to lose to Richland. So you never know. But when Trexler is clicking, and Hipp is playing smart, they can beat anyone in the West. They also need their two shooters to hit some 3's.

IMO, there is no way McCort beats BFalls...Their defensive pressure would exploit BM's lack of a true pg.

Oh there is a way. If BF gets in foul trouble, they are in trouble. They only have a 7 man rotation really. If Cottrill or Cook get into foul trouble against a good team, they can be beat. If both get in foul trouble, an average team can beat them. But they are extremely disciplined and I doubt any team other than West Middlesex will be able to handle the press unless the refs give a hand.

Mccort not quick nor athletic enough to induce foul trouble on BF, IMHO. They would just take the ball from the PG and kick sand in his face.
