Pirates- why do I always have high hopes?

Post by Coach »

1-3 to start. The pitching has been rock solid. The hitting, however, looks like it is the same as it has been. These guys appear to have shown no growth. The bats in the Burgh are awful...simply awful.

The Pirates have faced the best the Cubs had to offer, and Zach Grienke. Given their already limited offense, did anyone expect the Pirates to be poutting up 5+ runs per game? Not me.

The Bucs batting order has definite limitations.

I am going to wait until a 1/4 of the season is done around June 1 to judge. The pitching has been excellent. Basically 2 bad pitches (gophers given up by AJ and Hughes) are the difference between being 1-3 and 3-1.

I wouldn't write of the offense just yet. If you recall last Year they scored 52 runs in April and the offense exploded for a few months. McCutchen,Alvarez, and Walker are very streaky guys. Cutch is good enough to go on an absurd streak at any time. Alvarez usually strikes in bunches as well. Four games in, I'm not worried yet.

Awful offense continues. I enjoy baseball. Why do I do this? I feel like I need to test the waters and go on some dates. In the end I know I'll come right back but wow....

1-5 record, 6 games, only 7 runs scored, but only about 15 given up.

As I said, I'll wait until June 1st.

The Bucs have 21 hits, Marte and McCutchen have 11 of them. Gotta get something from Jones, Alvarez, and Walker.

Did the sweep get your hopes back up, Coach?? The Bucs are back at 500 and can start over again. If they contim=nue to get the pitching they are getting now, they will contend. I think they have solid offensive contributors like, Cutch, Neil, Marte, Pedro, and Jone. They will not all be hot at the same time, but if one or two a night is on for a couple days, they'll be fine. Then if they get heroics from the role players like the Fort, Mac the shortstop, and even Snider it makes it all even better. 150 game to go and they are only 2 games behind the Cards. I'm still hoping!!

I'm really happy Snider is seeing more time and he's hitting! Walker is doing better too which is huge. He was putrid.
