Re: Interesting Pirate topic
I agree we could use another bat whether it is a rf/1b or in my opinion we could use a shortstop also. I said this last year about Jimmy Rollins. I do not know his contract situation, but I think he could be a valuable asset for a cheaper price than Stanton. Just wondering what you all think.

And the interesting of it all, Andrew Miller and Cam Maybin. Never turned out to anything. Same could be said for Polanco and Taillon. You just don't know what happens with baseball prospects.
Re: Interesting Pirate topic
I don't see the does Cole come out of the rotation discussion really being an issue until after the All-star break. Burnett has not even started throwing bullpen sessions yet. When he starts his rehab (based on the Pirates current practice) he will have a minimum of two rehab games. If he throws two rehab games, that is at least eleven days from the first rehab game before he can take the hill for Buccos. Only 17 days until the all-star break.
By then I have all the confidence that Charlie Morton will continue to do his best Kris Benson imitation (great stuff, lousy approach), and he will work himself out of the rotation.
When Wandy comes off DL (next Tuesday or Wednesday) ,Gomez has to go to the pen, and Reid (why is he around anyway) heads back to Indy. I will have a difficult time understanding the decision making of the FO if Cole is sent down and Reid stays. IMO the team is much better with Gomez in the Pen and Cole starting rather than Gomez starting, Reid holding down a chair in the pen, and Cole starting at Indy.
The Stanton trade discussion is also interesting from the standpoint of does this team need any changes. I realize the offensive numbers from the RFer's are poor, but this team has the second best record in all of baseball with the current roster. Just wondering if the record would be much better with better production from the RFer's?

Burnett
Liriano
Rodriguez
Locke
Morton
Gomez
Mazzaro
Morris
Watson
Wilson
Melancon
Grilli
I think was the idea of it all. Reid plays no factor in things.
But again, Cole can really put them in a situation where they can't send him down. He may pitch well, Wandy and Burnett could tweak something, or Locke, Liriano, or Gomez, Morton goes down with an injury.

Re: Interesting Pirate topic
Austin Meadows has agreed to terms. The Pirates bring in two very good high school prospects.
Outfielders in the minors with Meadows, Bell, Polanco, and Barnes. All talented and filled with potential.
Reese McGuire joins Wyatt Mathisen in the catching department, Both are highly regarded and are under 20.
Have to say I like what the Pirates brought in. Meadows can be coming in right when McCutchen's contract is towards the end.

How does it sound to say "The first place Pittsburgh Pirates". They really have a chance to do something special before the All-Star break. 12 of the 15 games are against teams with losing records and 12 of the 15 are at home. This would be a great time to seperate themselves from the rest of the field.

I thought the same thing, then I looked at the Cardinals' schedule.....
3 with Oakland
3 with Anaheim
3 with Miami
2 with Houston
4 with the Cubs
Fairly easy schedule as well.
Bucs just need to play their game, and try to go 10-5 at least.

I agree 10-5 and a record of 58-35 at the break would be awesome. Then we can see what happens after that.

Anyone mention lately that Barmes blows?
