Altoona Mountain Lions
Altoona Mountain Lions
Why is there something on here about every other team but them?
Last year posters on here were predicting that they would have a great season against "weak" Westmoreland County teams.
How will they do this year?
Who do you think they can get a W from?

Re: Altoona Mountain Lions
Given the time, and a little talent, Franco will get it done.
It ain't over until it's over.

Re: Altoona Mountain Lions
We ranked them #3 in the Quad East but that may be a little of a stretch they lose a ton of seniors from last year, but Kevin Givens (RB/LB) is a stud and will only be a junior. It's tough to say how much of a leap they will make from year 1 to year 2 with so much leaving. If they can be .500 going into playoffs I'd say that they made improvement.

Re: Altoona Mountain Lions
Altoona will never win in the WPIAL, year in and year out they will be 3 win team. Franco now has a dream team of coaches and it will not make a difference. They glory years of Altoona football are in the past and Earl Stroam is not walking through the door. The only way they can win if is Franco gets his wish and they leave the WPIAL and play like Hollidaysburg and Mifflin County.
Re: Altoona Mountain Lions
Did they win more than 3 last year?

Re: Altoona Mountain Lions
Thanks for the glowing, positive outlook on Altoona football, the palerider. LOL.
Altoona was a 4-6 playoff team last season, and they play in a very weak section within the WPIAL AAAA ranks..
--Latrobe, Connellsville, Hempfield, and Norwin are very subpar programs.
--Penn Trafford has been good recently, but its not a sure fire thing.
--Woodland Hills, McKeesport, and Central Catholic are among the best in the WPIAL year in, and year out.
And Look at how things played out, they beat Norwin, Hempfield, Latrobe, and Connellsville.
They lost to Kiski, McKeesport, and Penn Trafford by 7 points or less. And got blown out by Central and Gateway, and eventually got blown out by North Allegheny.
But you think, maybe they win 2/3 of those close games. Get higher than the 16th seed, and maybe get a more manageable first round game.
But, Altoona is the 4th biggest school in the whole WPIAL, they aren't doomed forever, and certainly not this year, either. Altoona has to replace ALOT, but they have some athletes including future division one linebacker, Kenny Givens.
I'd say give Franco a chance, and let the program build some consistency. Altoona is a big school district, Franco is a good coach. The stars will begin to align.
