College Basketball 13-14.
Not sure how everyone feels about basketball, but that is my bread and butter. I'm real excited about the season starting up Friday, and real excited about some of the game to start the year.
Kentucky and Michigan State. 1 vs. 2 on Tuesday night. Should be a good game. Kentucky has 6 of the top 20 recruits, plus 2-3 holdovers from last year's team. Michigan State is the class of the Big Ten with a complete veteran lineup. MSU returns 4 starters, and plenty of role players. Calipari and Izzo, two different styles, but both very successful guys.
In a double header with the MSU/UK game, Kansas and Duke follow that up. Kansas will start fresh with a lot of new faces, but they have the most anticipated college basketball player in quite some time. Andrew Wiggins will be the number one pick barring injury, and he will put Kansas in the national title race. It will be fun to see him in a game like this. He will be matched up with Duke's star freshman, Jabari Parker. Parked is also a top 5 prospect, and could also be a top 3 draft pick in the Spring. Duke has a better returning team, but the battle of the two freshman should be the headliner of this game.
Obviously the talk with college basketball anymore is the quality of play. Scoring is down, and the sport has become more physical. I wonder if the referees will adjust how they start to call games. That is certainly something to watch. Either way, plenty of good teams and story lines heading into the season. I enjoy college basketball over NHL and NBA, so to say I'm excited is an understatement.

UPJ Mountaincats open next Monday against PSU-Altoona at home, 7 PM.
It ain't over until it's over.

Not a fan of college hoops. The college game is all about the D1 hoops factories and the egos of the head coaches. I much prefer to watch the NBA - the best players in the world. It doesn't matter who coaches, its the guys on the floor I am watching.

See I enjoy some strategy involved. All coaches have big egos, but you have to appreciate how good these guys are.
Also, I enjoy the game play and atmosphere in college hoops much more than the NBA. The NCAA Tournament is the best and most compelling playoff in major sports right now.
I don't dislike the NBA, just a personal preference.

The NCAA tournament and NFL playoffs are the most entertaining but also some of the most flawed. Rarely do the teams that win these playoffs are actually they best team in the sport. They just got hot at the right time. But hey one and done makes for great entertainment and that's what USA sports is about

I'd say almost 100% of the time the "team that wins" gets hot at the right time. Not too often you have a team back into a championship.

True but look at 7 game series compared to 1. Any team can win 1 game against another. But doing it multiple times is a whole different story. I dont think super 40 steelers were the best team in the league but got hot at perfect time.theoneandonly wrote:I'd say almost 100% of the time the "team that wins" gets hot at the right time. Re: College Basketball 13-14.
the LA Kings won the Stanley Cup, arguably the hardest trophy to capture, as an 8 seed. Definition of getting hot at the right time and last I checked NHL still played 7 game series.
Re: College Basketball 13-14.
I agree Konjo that is easier to "make a run" as a less talented team through a tournament rather than a playoff series.

Today is the day! So happy to have college hoops back!
