Re: Penn State @ Pitt
Notice how those teams you talk about have had a changing of the guard and more success than Pitt since 2009..... Pitt has been in a stalling point. ESPN has identified multiplied times the past 2 years of alumni putting pressure on the AD to look for a coach that can out final four banners up.
Re: Penn State @ Pitt
VCU, 1 sweet 16, 1 elite 8, 1 final 4. All in the same year.
Butler has been a little better than I thought so I'll give you that one.

Ahhh and we finally get to the core of Konjo's problem. He gets his sports info from ESPN.konjo78 wrote:Notice how those teams you talk about have had a changing of the guard and more success than Pitt since 2009..... Pitt has been in a stalling point. News from ESPN, HAHA!!! They are the TMZ of the sports world!
As a PSU fan, I would take Dixon any day. Always puts out quality, competitive teams.

I just fail to understand how this is something to brag about. Pitt has a better men's basketball program (and not much else) than PSU and no one argues that but an elite program? Top 15 I might give you but a team that hasn't made a Final Four since the 40's and one Elite 8 since the 70's can hardly be considered elite. Not trying to be disrespectful but some people need to get real.

I agree, some people do need to get real.
Believe it or not, you agree with me and S Cube and everyone else.
Elite* Top* Good* whatever you want to describe a program.
There are 8-10 "elite" programs if you will under my definition.
Pitt is below that, but ahead of the vast majority of college basketball. So I would consider them a good program. top 25 program. Nobody is saying differently.
It's all how you use the terminology of describing basketball programs.

Sorry if I feel a team that has had 5, 3 seeds or higher should make more than 1 elite 8. I'm not saying Pitt is elite but their lack of playoff performances is sad for the seeds they have gotten.
Re: Penn State @ Pitt
Five 3 seeds or higher recently makes them a dang good program! They don't just hand those seeds out. They are earned by being, you know, good.

Hey a lot of people aren't happy about the postseason runs, I'm not. But I'm level headed, and understand how things work. Dixon will always put his teams in a position to win his league, and compete in March. Not many other coaches do that year in and year out. His postseason runs will happen, he's too good of a coach for it not to.
Boeheim has one national championship. He has way more talent than Pitt ever has, every year. Is he not a successful coach? He's won 20 games a year since the 1970's. He's been to four final fours in his career, about 1 a decade. It's just not as easy as everyone thinks. The guy knows how to coach, it's just hard.
