Pitt coaching staff changes

Post by Crimson's Ghost »

I'm glad to see Paul Chryst go out and make a few necessary changes this offseason.

Brooks Bollinger out as QB Coach, Paul Chryst assuming duties. I think it was redundant in general to have a QB coach with Chryst around. Chryst is a good QB coach, and it should make for a seamless transition.

Troy Douglas in as DB's coach, allows for Matt House to focus more as a DC. Douglas coached the Iowa State DB's last season, formerly had jobs North Carolina, South Florida, Indiana, Michigan State, and ECU. Native of Florida, should help with recruiting down South.

Chris Haering is now co-coaching the linebackers with Defensive Coordinator, Matt House. Haering will also be in charge of Special Teams, which is big news, because nobody was designated to coach them last year.

John Settle will take over the Running Back coach title. Most recent jobs were Cleveland Bowns RB coach, Panthers RB coach, and Wisconsin RB Coach. Nice to have a guy with NFL experience, and coached Wisconsin when they had 3 1,000 yard backs in a season. He's another guy with Southern roots.

Greg Lewis comes in as the WR coach. Lewis recently played in the NFL, and coached at San Jose State last year. Much like I predicted, Pitt went for a younger guy that played in the NFL, very similar to Bobby Engram.

1. Pitt needed to replace Engram with a guy with equal energy, seems like they did that.
2. Pitt needed to name a Special Teams coach, they did that.
3. They needed help on Defense, they did that.
4. And for gravy, brought in an NFL assistant to coach the backs.

I'm still worried about Matt House at DC, but overall the staff is better today than it was in January.
