AAABA post
Re: AAABA post
I'm pretty sure the reason most people have a problem is that the everyone knows there was a major domestic incident involving his mother but the kid was still allowed to play on a Catholic school sports team. Other kids get expelled for lesser offenses. That's where traits like the integrity of the school and all of its administrators really do come into question. Apparently there was another incident just a few weeks ago where he and a teammate crashed a party and beat up some kids in Johnstown. People just don't make these things up. I can understand why guys think he gets "special" treatment. It sure looks that way.
Re: AAABA post
Back to the original subject - who is gonna win it? Does anyone think Johnstown has a chance?

For those who wish to read my and others opinion on the Garrett College matter see the Garrett County Community College thread under the basketball heading.Crimson's Ghost wrote:While we're on the topic, we need to relax on the personal attacks on an individual athlete. I've never seen this on this site before where one kid gets laid into like this. And it's beyond talking about his behavior, and nobody is stopping anyone from saying something like that. We have adults making fun of a kid for his college selection - just imagine if you had a kid that was a good athlete and everyone just ripped him for picking a school. That's the part that needs toned down. "The Pride of Garrett County" "The 3 sport star" if you feel the need to talk about a kid, maybe use his real name, while you use your screen name.
For those who want to know why I made the Pride of Garrett County comment watch the Daily American Video. Again, I somewhat blame Trexler's outburst on his coach (Pfiel's) outburst earlier in the game which also can be seen on the Daily American Video.
I also blame Bishop McCort Catholic High School for its infatuation with sports. Let's be honest here. Trexler gets heat from most because he was a recruited athlete. I am aware of some incidents that led to his being suspended for a period of time from the baseball trip. I do not know what the incidents are. I am aware of a family matter but not the one say_oww mentioned. That is not my concern. What is my concern is this marketing spiel that McCort puts forth about how awesome the school is and that, somehow, its students are better than the schools that surround it. There are bullies at Bishop McCort too. There are mean girls at Bishop McCort too. There are snobs at Bishop McCort too. It has students that drink, take drugs and commit date rape.
I wish Trexler well. He will need to grow up. Let's hope that his best years are ahead of him.

I haven't said anything on the subtopic of this topic, I don't care to chime in on it anyway. I just want everyone to keep things to a healthy discussion and not a dumpster fire of comments about an individual.
Now I hope this can be a healthy discussion about the AAABA tournament, one of the better athletic showcase events for this region. Martella's beating New Orleans is a good story, Altoona still hanging around is also a big story. It's rare when both cities can go this deep into the tournament.

That the five teams left have won just one championship total amongst them is quite the story too. If Johnstown wins tonight we are going to have a first time champion. That just happened in 2012. Baltimore recently announced that its future teams will consist of 16-19 year olds. The challenge will be to get 16 teams to come to town each year.
One question for those who may know. Is it a written rule that the Johnstown league champ can't pick up players from the runner up?

Before "Flood City" entered the mix, and the business of having two Johnstown teams, they definitely could pull from the second place teams. I always thought it was interesting that teams would choose not to do so due to regular season rivalries.
I believe it was a few years ago Delweld upset Martella's in the championship, and I think Martella's was loaded too, and Delweld took players from the Renegades instead.

Does Altoon'a league operate generally the same as the Johnstown one? I noticed a tweet and someone said this is Jextin Pugh's third appearence in the national tournament, with three different teams. Is he always a pick-up player or does he jump around from team to team?
Re: AAABA post
I don't know how the Altoona league works. They have been eliminated. The final four.
Re: AAABA post
I haven't been on in a long time just thought I would see what everybody was saying about the AAABA tournament
Since Alttoona got eliminated I am rooting for Martellas to win the tournament. I like to side with the home town team s. Jextin played with Red Bull in 2011 I made a mistake on my initial tweet. That was the first year they made it to the tournament. Jeff Miller was the manager. He has always played on the same team we just changed sponsors . Last year he get picked up by Johnston for the tournament. Jeff decided not to coach anymore after last year. This will probably be Jextins last year.

My problem is I watch far too much local sports in a several county area. However I was treated to a one of it kind game tonight when NB lost to Martellas. It had a little bit of everything with Boyer getting to first base on his speed after a third strike and a dropped ball by the catcher. It had good pitching then extremely poor pitching. It had what I think was a changing strike and ball zone and to be honest was just flat out fun ball in the final two innings.
Martellas loaded the bases in both the 8th and 9th innings. Consecutive walks leading to the go ahead run. A powerful charge by NB to take back a game they felt was stolen from them.
ND should have closed the last inning out with a win but had some key errors or mistakes in the infield.
What it boils done to is this for $5.00 I can watch some nice baseball locally. I take into consideration these are still kids and they play their hearts out in these games.
I don't know if they can beat Chicago but if it is half as entertaining as tonight's game then what more can I ask for.
