Yes I heard about the sophomores too. It may hurt come deep in the playoffs depending on too many sophomores with little to no big game experienceD6sports101 wrote:Do not know of any juniors to look for but was told by several people about the sophomoresPantherfan50 wrote:Any good Juniors to look for this year for the Marauders?

I'm still sticking with my Bishop Carroll pick. I think they are a little more skilled, BG just has more athletes. Martinazzi and Lucas are two very good guards that can score.
BG knows how to play with them, and the games have been close the past 2 years. I just think Carroll has a few more scoring options.

I think losing Marcus Lee is going to affect them a lot more than people think I agree Martinazzi and Lucas are great guards but I don't think they will be enough to beat Guilfoyle for the 2nd year in a row

Very true pantherfan50. I would like to see them play a game first before I start saying they are good or not. Just going by other sources but will definitely take a look at them early in the season. From the things I heard they should really help the varsity team

Yes sometimes playing against all freshmen then coming up and playing with the big boys is too much for people but we will see if they live up to the hypeD6sports101 wrote:Very true pantherfan50. Yes a good bit. Brandon Chadourns little brother Evan Chadbourn is really talented along with 6'5 F Luke Frederick they have some good guards too but those two stuck out the most they did go 20-0 beating Hollidaysburg and Altoona on the way so I would say they're pretty good but time will tell if they're ready to play big minutes on a good varsity team.
Re: D6 championship predictions
I have a son in the BG system and am a huge supporter of the boys program and would honestly tell you I would make BC the favorite in D6 Single A. They have 4 players back who either started or played big minutes in several state playoff games over the last 2 seasons (one of which who is the best player in the area and an all-state peroformer). Also if the 6'8" Holsinger kid is healthy that makes them even more of a threat because of his presence on the boards and around the rim on defense.
BG has 3 starters back but very little experience after that. Yes, their sophomores are good but I saw them play a couple times this summer and almost every game last season, and you can tell it is going to be a big adjustment playing against varsity players after being able to do whatever they wanted against junior high competition. They will eventually be very good (and backed up by a good group of 9th graders this year) but to ask them to step in against the competition in the LHAC (Someret, Johnstown, WH, and FH return virtually everyone, along with BC and games against PC, BM, CH, and Richland that won't be easy) is going to be a lot to ask. Another factor working against BG is that due to the anticipated success of their football team they are going to have a very abbreviated pre-season and may even have to re-schedule some early games which would further limit their practice time. It will be more difficult for the young guys to be brought up to speed when you have a limited number of practices, especially in the pre-season.
I talked to Coach Drenning at a basketball fundraiser this past weekend and he said this is the toughest schedule they've had since he's been the coach. In addtion to the conference games they play Fairview again in their Christmas tournament who is the defending District 10 AA champs and had a young team last year. Also he said they play at JV, at Altoona, and at Central. By the time the playoffs roll around the inexperienced players should be battle tested and I would think they would be a tough out in Single A. However, given the schedule and challenges facing a relatively inexperienced team (minus the 3 returnees) I would still make BC the favorite. If they play again at Saint Francis, given past games, it'll probably come down to the last possession just like the last two years. However, IMO there is no way the BG is a favorite against this BC team. After this year, I would say BG has the brighter future due to the talent in the lower levels of their program and the work being done to develop those players.

Re: D6 championship predictions
Trust me their football success which I believe should at least be a trip to the state semi-finals will not affect how well they do this year in basketball. I have heard Holsinger from BC is not playing basketball and concentrating on football from numerous people close to BC athletics and with no real force down low they will have a tough time guarding Chadbourn and Wolf down low
