Pitt - Boston College Open Game Thread

Post by Crimson's Ghost »

I didn't have an avatar before this, avatar police. I used to have a D6SN one but I took it down months ago when that was in question. I don't have a HS team really, so I just picked my college team. Hope it's alright. Really has nothing to do with Pitt being 1-0.

I think this Pitt game could go either way. I've said 8-4 all along, I had this as one of the 8 wins since the schedule comes out. Still think that happens tomorrow night, we'll see. I obviously expressed concerns for this team. Very young, very little depth in important spots, just too many questions to get overly excited yet. We have Boyd and Conner and they are fun to watch, that's about it.

Well played.

I don't know much about Pitt and don't really follow them. Pitt fans make me want to root against them but in reality Pitt being good helps western PA football a lot. Plus with a series coming up with Penn State, a strong Pitt program will make those games that much more relevant.

As someone who doesn't follow the intricacies of Pitt's program but does try to catch a few of their games, I think this game does offer a lot of the concerns that Kirk is bringing up. Pitt looked (didn't see the game but the score indicates) good last week. They have a coach that is working with mostly his own players. I think this game tonight is more important to the Pitt program than it's fans want to let on.

I think most people are optimistic, but in the back of their minds know this is a game Pitt has lost in recent years. I haven't gotten the sentiment that a lot of Pitt fans are chalking this up as a win yet, since Pitt really doesn't have that kind of fan base lol. We're a pretty self-loathing bunch in nature.

I predicted this to be a win, but I don't think it'll be easy. I think both teams are straight ahead power running teams, and both teams have questionable defenses that didn't really get tested in week one. I think Pitt's biggest advantage is Tyler Boyd, he's a game breaker that BC doesn't have. BC's biggest advantage is playing at home and a dual threat QB.

I don't think either team hits 30 tonight. I see most people picking it to be 24-21 type game, and that seems reasonable.

Huge game in terms of changing the perception. If Pitt loses, then we're probably looking at another 6 win type team. A win puts Pitt on track to be in the 8 win range.

This is definitely the type of game Pitt has lost in the past. Hopefully this is the time that the perception changes.

Yep, Boyd and Conner are good. Voytik still growing up, big second half ahead. But encouraging first half.

Boyd is a stud. Conner is a stud. Nice road conference win. Big game in two weeks against Iowa after a field trip to Florida International.

FIU isn't supposed to be too good, but they'll stack the box on JC and Voytik will probably have to make some throws. Or they'll rush for 300 yards again, one or the other.

Pretty pleased with the performance, the pass protection was something that wasn't too good. Voytik didn't look too comfortable early on, but made a couple of nice throws as the game went on. Conner and Boyd put on a show again, always good to see your two horses do a lot of the work. I thought the defense played well, minus a few big plays. Those can be corrected, Murphy's best play came on a missed tackle with the guy behind the line, and their big pass play the safety made the wrong play. Otherwise, Gonzalez and Thomas looked good. Render and Blair played well up front, and Terrish Webb looked good. BC didn't have much of a passing game. I thought Pitt left some points out on the field with those two holding penalties on third downs. Overall, pretty pleased. Lots of room to improve, I wouldn't buy my ACC Championship tickets like a few of the national writers are saying. Still a lot to prove.

I watched the game. Connor and Boyd will be playing on Sundays. I did not think Connor would be much of a back against good run defenses, but he looks better to me this year. Pretty good vision. I'll be interested to see what Pitt does against a qb that can pass and a defense that forces voytik to make plays on 3rd and long. You have to be happy if your a Pitt fan right now

BC's qb was horrible. Had time and wide open receivers but couldn't come close

Yeah third and longs are going to be a problem until he improves, Iowa is the kind of team that will stack up Conner and force Voytik to do something. It was nice seeing him break a 23 yard run, and Pitt was actually able to call some designed runs with him. I believe it was Pitt's first drive on a third and long the pressure came, he got bumped and took off. 100 times out of 100, Savage and Sunseri would have been sacked, it's nice to see him have some escape ability.

But Conner is really tough, he moves well for his size, and the run blocking was excellent tonight (pass blocking not so much) Conner doesn't go down easy, surprising speed and quickness, and he knows when to take a chance and cut it outside. He doesn't try to be something he's not.

Murphy was not very good, Pitt seemed to adjust and take away his running lanes and make him a passer, and you're right, he just couldn't make a throw to save his life. I can see why he didn't have much success for Florida last year.
