Ch. 6's "Top 6 of the week"
Ch. 6's "Top 6 of the week"
I couldn't help but notice the exclusion of an electrifying 98 yard run for a TD, in the weekend's HS football highlights.
It ain't over until it's over.

They didn't have video of it, channel 10 did. Channel 6 wasn't there yet, or got there too late.
Re: Ch. 6's "Top 6 of the week"
That's because Ch. 10 covers the half of the LHAC closest to Altoona. If it had been State College, Bellefonte, Dubois, Punxsy, Indiana, and all points beyond a 15 mile radius of Johnstown, it would have been on Ch. 6. Look at the 12 teams involved in "picking" this top 6. Compare the ones they picked. I'm sure there were other plays and overall performances just as worthy.

I think it was more of an example of bad timing. WJAC went to about 15 games, and they just have a way better Friday night show overall. Just from highlights, knowledge of the anchors, and overall presentation.
No offense to the channel ten anchor, but it just doesn't seem like she knows football all that well. They pick odd highlights and don't seem to have the right words when describing the play. The old channel ten anchor,Amy Gill, has moved on to a news station in California. She was better. Maisel, Ashley Chase, and Pat Welter are more knowledgeable on WJAC's part.

While I agree with you on their knowledge of the game, what gets me is they cover schools not even close to Johnstown. St. College? Punxy? Elk Co.? Seriously? My thinking is, instead of a 10 second highlight of 30 some games, dedicate a minute to 90 seconds to 12-15 games.

They are the NBC affiliate from the Maryland border to the New York border, I would like to see more Johnstown region coverage too but they do have a large coverage area, and they do try to incorporate the District 9 teams and I'll give them credit for staying on top of that.

Manfred -- It's pretty simple, our photographer had to leave at halftime to get another game. Crappy timing, but it's happened before and it'll happen again. The Friday Football Final show is only 12 minutes long and we try to get 14-16 highlights per night. Why that many? There are anywhere between 35-40 games involving District 5, 6, and 9 teams going on every Friday night, and we are responsible for showcasing as many as possible and fitting them into a small show. If it were my choice, we'd have a 30 minute show, but it's not.
If you notice, you'll see we will always have more LHAC and WestPAC games than any other conference strictly because of geography, so your contention that we don't care about the Johnstown-area schools is factually incorrect. All of our photographers are assigned to two games every Friday night; sometimes we get lucky with highlights, other times we get nothing.
As far as Shareef's touchdown, we searched all over the internet for it and could not find it to show for Pat's Top 6 plays. It wasn't for the lack of trying. Hopefully this Friday we'll get luckier. Thanks for watching, as always.

Then a public disclaimer at the beginning of the sportscast should be said. Love those 3 weather reports crammed into that half hr.

WJAC's show is 10x better than most of the state.

Agreed! WJACTV does a great job and highlights as much as they can handle with a small staff.
