Pirates vs. Brewers Open Thread

Post by Crimson's Ghost »

One of the biggest series ever in PNC Park? The Biggest? Hard to say, but these three games are huge. The Pirates have 10 games left, but these are the only 3 left at PNC Park.

Current Standings
NL Central

1. St. Louis 85-68
2. Pittsburgh 82-70 2.5 GB
3. Milwaukee 79-74 6 GB

NL Wild Card
1. San Francisco 84-68
2. Pittsburgh 82-70 2 GB

3. Milwaukee 79-74 3.5 GB
4. Atlanta 76-76 6 GB

So 2 out of one, 2.5 out of the other. They need to win at least one against the Brewers to remain a full game ahead of them after this weekend, 2-3 or a sweep could really knock Milwaukee out.

Crimson I think your math is a little off in the GB's in the wild card race. The Pirates are currently up 3.5 games on the Brewers in the wild card race. So with at least one win this weekend, at worst, they come out of the weekend with a 2.5 game lead.

Agreed. Huge series. As long as the Pirates avoid a sweep, their chances of making the playoffs look good.

If the Bucs can find a way to get 2 of 3 this weekend, the Brewers will be on life support. A 4.5 game lead with seven/six to play would mean the Brewers would basically have to go 6-0 in their last six to catch the Bucs. I like those odds.

Can the Buccos catch the Cards?

I kinda meant the same thing, I should have said "at least" a full game ahead. A sweep would take it down to a half game, anything else the Pirates remain ahead by more.

St. Louis is hosting the Reds, Giants at San Diego. So I guess we are all big Reds and Padres fans.

Great series win. Lats night was very winnable, the sweep would've been nice.

As it stands now, the Pirates would be hosting the wild card game, as they hold the head to head tiebreaker with San Francisco.

The Pirates have a 99.9% chance of making the playoffs, I like those odds.

Home game would be amazing and a heck of a lot better than a flight across country for a one game elimination!
You play to win the game!!!

Exactly. PNC Park is a huge factor. The crowd will be amazing and the team thrives off of it. I'd take Pittsburgh over San Fran comfortably if the game is in Pittsburgh.
