The AD is a convenient scapegoat to blame when things don't go the way some dream they should be going.

Who are these high priced real assistant coaches that Pitt should be drawing? I call Nonsense again.

Steve Pederson will be replaced some day. Chances are the new guy will be no better.
1. Ohio State is located in an urban area. Columbus is the largest city in Ohio.

2. Nobody is calling for Pitt to beat the SEC champion, but rather to compete in their own league.

3. Louisville isn't quite in the south, but they are a city school that plays in the same league as Pitt, and they spend way more than Pitt does.

4. Steve Pederson botched a lot of coaching hires, he doesn't listen to advisors and has done plenty of unpopular things. AD's can be scapegoats but you are acting like its coincidence Nebraska faltered under him and Pitt isn't faring much better in his return. Oliver Luck is a smart and good AD, Steve Pederson really isn't.

5. Pitt could have hired someone more qualified than Matt House. If your coach is the 60th highest paid coach, your staff isn't much better. It's simple. If Pitt had a higher budget, they would have better coaches and a better team. Matt House was severely under qualified for this job. He was hired after Pitt's DC job was open for over a month, nobody wanted to come here because Chryst didn't have the assets to bring a quality guy he wanted.

Part of Gary Anderson's for leaving Wisconsin was he felt he didn't have the budget to hire coaches he wanted to hire. This isn't an isolated issue to Pitt. It isn't some made up thing on Pantherlair, these things actually happen.

6. A new AD might not do better, but he might. We'll never know until we see a new guy in charge. It's all about what you put into your athletic programs. Pitt isn't getting the going rate for what they are putting into their athletics right now.

Believe what you want. Pitt had a nice run in the 70s and early 80s. That was thirty years ago. Columbus is a college town that grew up around the college. Nebraska just fired a successful coach. Who wants to play football in Nebraska?

Graham and Chryst were obviously good hires. Better teams came calling.

Athletic directors do not recruit players, design offenses and defenses or control the purse strings. Where should the money come from? Pitt is an educational institution that needs to justify spending its resources on a football team that appeals to a small and dwindling fan base. The athletic director should be as faceless as the registrar, the bursar or the vice provost.

Personally, I don't think we're even having the same conversation or talking about the same thing.

To me Pitt needs to find a young high energy coach with a fancy system to score points. A Chip Kelly type of guy. If they can find a guy like that, they will have a chance to win 9 or 10 games a year. The AD will have to step up and put money into the program, give the coaches money and give them time to develope the talent. If they score points and make it look fun the kids will come
