Pitt is the lone major college basketball team in the area. They do play in a top-notch arena, just as the football team does. However, while in a big conference neither is considered an elite program. Slightly above average is a fair characterization of a team that makes the tournament and wins a game once in awhile. While the hoops program has made great strides, it still doesn't and probably never will attract the NBA type recruits which are needed to rise above the rest of the competition.
konjo78 wrote:I've never enjoyed the NBA... The 24 shot clock is annoying because the game feel rushed. Not to mention the casual feel of the game. Much like crimson said, music during game, the lack if intensity of players and the amount of games played. I'd much rather see 40 second shot clocks and a better flow to the game. Slow and steady is alright by me because it creates a fight between offense and defense. 24 seconds is a short amount of time for a defense to survive and give up a rushed shot.
This is one of the most absurd comments I've ever seen. Would someone please quantify the often cited "NBA/lack of intensity" argument? I'll take "in-game arena music" and trade you for "droning college kids", so those two annoying items cancel each other out. By pure definition, the 24 second clock promotes intensity by spurring action and not 30 seconds of stationary ball isolation. If you are going to criticize, at least know what you are criticizing. I don't like hockey, but I don't waste time making up reasons for why I don't like it. I just don't like it.

When watching an NBA game its obvious players take multiple possessions off. Why? Because 24 seconds isn't much time for the offense to do something so the defense can have probably 1 guy take an easy and still be alright. And I love the "student sections" they are involved in the game creating a home field advantage and are involved in the game. If anyone doesn't understand anything here about criticisms it you saw owed.....

Ok cujo!

Actually, in the NBA the defense works to prevent the offense from getting a shot in 24 seconds so the offensive schemes are more complex. NBA teams just can't sit in zone or they will get burnt because the guys on the perimeter can shoot. I watch 2-3 NBA games a day and don't see any evidence of what you claim. On the contrary, college teams can employ 2-3 zone with a 35 second clock which leads to less scoring, and for me less interest. NCAA players aren't as talented as the NBA, and thats why the game works that way. That's what makes March Madness so enticing for people because a team can have a great shooting day and upset an upper echelon team. However, I grew up watching the Bullets and Sixers, and still would rather watch them than Georgetown or Temple - thats my preference. But I am not making up crap about college hoops to win a debate.

You instead are making up crap about NBA :) I'm not making up anything about college. There is a reason the BEST coaches only stick to college and there is a reason company's invest more into college games for viewers. Its because 1 league is much more enjoyable to watch than the other.

Also the nba is way to big name heavy. This season is showing it so much. There a lot of really solid TEAMS out there (Portland, golden state, Atlanta and Washington) but their numbers are down heavily this year because big name stars aren't winning. (Like carmello, lebron early season, Kobe, Wade, and more).

Pitt was named one of the top 30 jobs in college basketball, which is about right. It isn't an elite blue blood program but is better than most programs out there.

Big win for Pitt today, they were able to hang on and beat Syracuse in the final minute.

Pitt is now 18-10 and 7-7. Still very much on the bubble, but they still very much control their own destiny.

Sophomore trio Jones (19), Artis (16), and Young (14) led the way today.

Next up is Boston College at home, very winnable. BC is one of the worst teams in the league.

Penn State lost to perennial Big 10 doormat Northwestern 60 to 39 today. Newbill didn't have a FG till around the 2:00 mark left in regulation.Anyone want to continue to baby powder Chambers butt on how he should still continue to keep his job ??? I don't want to hear about oh but he's got some ok talent coming in, that literally means next to nothing on how badly motivated and coached this team is. One thing I don't understand is why they don't just play their home games(except maybe against ranked teams) at Rec Hall again? With the upper deck shut off, might as well try and sell out one building and give your team a feeling of home court advantage again with the small arena.

Same as ever. You know, raising tens of millions of dollars for pediatric cancer research and direct support to sick children and their families. It's literally the finest and most successful student-led philanthropic effort in the entire world.

It's not too late to donate Moldo. Just head on over to http://thon.org. You could make a difference in a child's life.
