Who made an excuse?
Simply said St. Michael had a good showing against teams that draw from much larger areas.

The school district has nothing to do with Legion teams. There is more than one Legion team within Greater Latrobe School District. There are no classifications in Legion ball.

Actually, it does, as most Legion teams are zoned using school district boundaries.
In this case, Latrobe's zone is Greater Latrobe and Ligonier school districts, north of Route 30.

I guess it will be a peaceful off season. Bedford doesn't have to worry about dreaming up some BS formula to get out of playing Claysburg until the finals. Bedford can be 0-20 or 0-21 next year or whatever the schedule makers come up with and they'll go to regionals cause their hosting at that dump in Bedford next year. So for one spot all the other teams have to bust their asses to fight for one spot. Good Luck to all the teams next season except for Bedford they can sleepwalk their way through the season to the regionals plus they'll have home ump advantage as well.

Re: 2016 regionals: You have to have 2 fields, so where is the second? Everett? Ridge?

Why Bedford??? Why not Somerset?? Somerset has a beautiful field. Plus they have a decent field on top the hill, and if that isn't good enough, Shanksville is only a 20 minute drive and their field is pretty nice as well.

I know Somerset recently hosted it, but based on the fact of having better facilities it should be a no brainer. You literally have 3 fields within 20 minutes of each other max. And the worst field of the three (the field in Somerset on top of the hill at their Little League complex) is better than Bedford's. Also you have the new Iron Horse complex that is just up 219. So in theory you could use 4 fields, one of which has lights (I believe), and all 4 are better than Bedford's 2. Just a thought.

Amusing comments... Latrobe and Pleasant Unity are two legion teams with the Greater Latrobe school district. A large number of Ligonier kids play on Johnstown Colt teams, so its hard to lump all of them together.

Not sure how ALB selects regional sites, but one would think they may opt for other locales with better fields and facilities. Bedford hosted the regional a few years back, I believe 2011, and it was a quagmire due to rain. Ebensburg hosted the event in 2004, and it was also a bust due to weather. Somerset hosted the event in 2013 with Shanksville serving as the alternate field. I believe Somerset also hosted the event a few years prior, but not sure on the date.

The Somerset Sr. League field isn't large enough for ALB competition. The fence in left is even shorter than Bedford! I doubt Iron Horse would ever be a consideration because there would undoubtedly be fees associated with field usage. I do remember seeing some regional games hastily moved to Somerset's turf field in other years when the weather didn't cooperate. At least tournament organizers were adaptable enough to move things around when the monsoon hit.
