Bishop Caroll
Re: Bishop Caroll
This has to be the beginning of the end of BC football!
Re: Bishop Caroll
That started with the leaving of Craig Sponsky and the current Head of the school's DE-emphasis on sports.
It ain't over until it's over.

Re: Bishop Caroll
Can someone take some pics of this field and post them? I'd love to see this Taj Mahal of a football "field"
Re: Bishop Caroll
Just head west out of E'burg on 422. As you top the hill by the school, it is just beyond their gymnasium, on the right heading down the road. That's what you'll want to do after seeing it- head down the road.
It ain't over until it's over.
Re: Bishop Caroll
I read or heard somewhere that BC is using the Point for their games.

Re: Bishop Caroll
Bishop Carroll's field is really small, and all the times being there for basketball games passing it on the way in, I was never even sure if it was regulation. Obviously it must be, but it is a small place overall. The field will absolutely be in rough shape mid to late season. Central Cambria's field is always a disaster just up the road, so I'm guessing the draining and field conditions will be similar.
Pittsburgh Central Catholic has been a school that typically went on without a home field for years. They would play roughly 7 of 9 games strictly on the road and maybe squeeze in a home game at Duquesne, CMU, or Woodland Hills. But generally, they would simply just play on the road. Honestly, Bishop Carroll would just be better off doing that. Rent out Saint Francis or somewhere for homecoming and senior nights, and just play the remainder of the games on the road.

And for the Varsity games, you can bet your azz you'll pay a lot more than $2 to attend! Just for the sake of argument, why doesn't their Diocese co-horts @ BMCHS "let" them use the Point? With BMCHS going back to Friday nt. games, BC could do Sat. easily, BMCHS gets the concessions (consumer rape), and at least the visitors get to see a game in a quality setting. And all needed personnel are on a volunteer basis, because that is their 'individual' way of giving back to the diocese. I know this, as my Uncle worked the sticks for BC @ St. Francis, Pro Bono.reugenev wrote:I can't believe the LHAC would allow BC to use that field for competitive games! This has to be a huge safety concern for visiting schools!
The schools aren't run by the diocese anymore, and that ended a few years ago. Each school is run as a private enterprise, with some diocesan support. So the diocese doesn't "let" McCort use the Point Stadium, they arranged for that on their own. Also, the city runs the "pricey" concession stands at the War Memorial and the Point Stadium, McCort doesn't see a dime of that, they simply rent the facility. The get the gate and 50/50 and their merchandise.program sales of course, but they are paying to use the place.
So while some might find it a little skeptical to pay admission for a high school baseball game or an 8th grade football game, it simply has to be done, unless the Point Stadium is free, I doubt if any school could play there and allow free admission to smaller events, just not feasible.
Re: Bishop Caroll
Thank you for the clarification, but this just shows what a 'shell' the whole Catholic situation is in. The general public doesn't know all this stuff, so (we're) going to continually complain/ object about it, and the wrong info will persist. Besides, it's fun jabbing at you folks. LOL Now back to topic- What's the po' boiz at BC going to do?
It ain't over until it's over.

Re: Bishop Caroll
No problem, the schools broke away from being run entirely by the diocese because one school generated more money than the others. Hence the introduction of the infamous school board.
Re: Bishop Caroll
Looks like holes for the bleachers are being dug at the practice field along with a scoreboard.
