Pirates- Who goes when Morse is added Monday?

Post by Coach »

Ishikawa or Rodriguez?

Rod is playing 3rd today. Does his versatility keep him around?

Probably Decker. Ishikawa or Rodriguez can play outfield in a pinch.

Florimon is probably the next one to go whenever Harrison comes off, it will be an interesting decision when Mercer comes back though.

To me Ishy stays. Playoff experience, his hits have all come when they were big situations. No substitute for that.
Plus I believe when Harrison and mercer are both back, you add back 2 more right handed bats, decker probably first to go , but they'll need Ishikawa.

Better question is who goes when Harrison is ready in two weeks?

I am assuming Mercer (who is suppose to start rehab assignment Friday) comes off the DL before Harrison. Florimon is the obvious choice to be sent down when Mercer is ready, but then who goes when Harrison is ready?

I would not be surprised to see a turf toe 15 day DL visit for someone when Harrison is ready to get them to Sept 1 when the rosters expand.

Article on Pirate's website says Mercer starts rehab Friday. I took that to mean tomorrow.

Scahill starts his rehab soon also. Which arm goes when he comes back? Bastardo or Caminero. I won't be sad to see either go, though Scahill is only marginally better.

Scahill started rehab yesterday for Gulf Coast League team. I read somewhere that he may still have an option left. If so, the Buc's may have to use it if Scahill is ready to come off the DL before Sept 1. The problem with that is if he is not on the 25 man roster or the DL on August 31 at midnight he is not eligible for the playoff roster.

I can't imagine them risking losing Caminero and his 100 mph fastball, and now that they added Soria to the mix, Bastardo can be used in the LOOGY role he was brought here to do.

I know injuries are different, but Jed Lowrie just missed 3 months for same surgery on thumb . Harrison may be rushing it
