Buc's have resigned Sean Rodriguez to a one year 2.5 mill contract.   Granted Rodriguez can fill in at multiple positions and that has some value, but is that skill worth $ 600,000 more per year than the 1.9 mill he was being paid last year? 

And I thought Greinke's contract that is going to pay him 1.07 mill per start was crazy.  The Pirates are going to pay Rodriguez 2.5 mill to sit on the bench.  Yikes!

With his versatility I think that makes him worth it in today's baseball world.  With Walker and Pedro gone, he will probably play more than he did last year. If Kang has an absence to begin the year that makes him even more valuable.  He and Harrison can play multiple positions in the infield if needed.  That flexibility the Pirates have had has helped them over the past couple of seasons I think.

Yes he is an insurance policy in case Kang's return is delayed into May or forbid June, but if Rodriguez has to play more than he did last year that is not a good thing for this team.   Rodriguez is just not a very good hitter.

The Bucs over the years have been slow starters under Hurdle, and if Rodriguez has 60-80 at bats in the first 20 games that trend will likely continue.

Good move to bring Sean Rodriguez back, adds a good glove off the bench and it's for a relatively cheap price.  He's worth having on your top 25 man roster. 


He doesn't bat that much, actually he had the least amount of AB's in his career last year.  Probably more of the same this year.

He's the starting first baseman at the moment.  He was Clint's choice to start the wild card game.

I wouldn't think of it like that, If he had to pencil in a lineup tomorrow, it would likely be Michael Morse.

Might be a Korean first basemen in the fold soon, apparently the Pirates made a bid.

Pirates are projected to win 91 games currently by an analytical website for what that's worth.

The lack of free agent signings appears to have everyone frustrated. People forget they still have virtually the same team that just won 98 games. They might not have gotten better, I don't think they've gotten much worse.

The need to add some sort of power to the lineup, but Harrison taking over for Walker is a wash in my eyes. They have different style of games, but Harrison is more likely to hit .300 but Walker is more likely to hit 20 homers.
