D5/6 Football Program Power Rankings II
Re: D5/6 Football Program Power Rankings II
Carroll with 5 Titles, 6 Appearances and during this stretch pretty much owned McCort only gets an honorable mention, while Penns Manor with 1 Appearance is ranked? Not sure I understand that unless you are weighting in favor of recent history which I sure couldn't argue that. I know it's just for discussion but that stood out to me.

True. I don't want to steal your thunder, so please remind everyone who that was.Lefteyelouie wrote:100 wins in the decade of the 90's is pretty amazing. FH has quite a program. I can't ever really remember them being down for more then a year or so.
Manfred, FH does have a losing record against 1 team that they played in the 90's....

I'm sure it's been done before, but it's always interesting conversation to bring back again. Please.Crimson's Ghost wrote:Right, the original post said who are the best programs in the past 10-15 years, so I was just using that criteria.
I could expand my research.

I was weighing in recent history mostly as well as stuff from the past. It's just an opinion, just wanted to see everyone's thoughts and own rankings. I know a lot of arguements could be made for a lot of teams around the area

Yeah it's a fun topic for sure. For longevity purposes it does seem like Tyrone, Forest Hills, Bishop Carroll, McCort, and Bellwood have had the most success at the A and AA level.
Some teams have emerged lately, most notably Bishop Guilfoyle, with Central Martinsburg really coming on strong as well.
Somerset, Richland, and Penns Manor have had some solid teams in recent years. Johnstown at the AAA level hasn't been bad through the years, though some of those championships came before the D9/8 merger so all they had to do was beat a bad Bellefonte team to be crowned D6 champs. Huntingdon in the early 2000's.
So even if we expand it a little further to the 20 year mark I would say Tyrone 1, Bishop Carroll 2.

FH and Tyrone have been some of the best playoff games over the last 20 years. They have decided many of the distric champs over that time. BM was in that mix in AA for a few years also but then went down to A. BC might have the most A titles over the last 15 years with BM coming in close. United made a run in AA for a few years. I like to make lists of top teams by asking myself this. Am i surprised they are in the championship, does it seem like they are always playing in it, and when you ask someone from out of the area do they know the team? That gives you a good idea as to who has been great.

Over the past 20 years, I would put McCort a little higher than 10. Also, this is tough to do because you have tend to have the error of recency. Sure BG is on top NOW, but they had a pretty long gap between district titles. Consistency over the entire timeframe, I would look at FH because like someone else said, they rarely have more than one down season in a row.
Good conversation starter though... and one thing is for certain, there are a whole lot of programs out there in D5/6/9 that would love to have the success of the ten you mention.

I think Bedford was 6-5 against FH in the 90's. FH winning all but 1 playoff meeting against Bedford though.Manfred wrote:True. Top ten in past 20 years...
FH, Tyrone, BM, BC, State College, Clearfield, Portage, Bedford, B-A, BG, PM, Windber... I'd have these in the conversation.

Lefteye. I like this list. Portage and Windber have been historically dominate in the WestPAC. Windber until recent years. Berlin has been great since 2010 going 61-8, but it's late in the time span we're talking about.
