Signing Day 2016
Re: Signing Day 2016
Hostetler was the starter for PSU in 1980 for the first three games of the season. They beat Colgate in the opener and a bad Texas A&M team in week two. Hostetler and the offense could not generate anything in a week three loss at home to a highly ranked Nebraska in front of the largest home crowd in PSU history (84k+). At the time, Hostetler was under 50% completion percentage with one TD and one INT through three games.El-Moldo wrote:It's like when Jeff Hostetler left PSU for WVU. Paterno wanted him to play linebacker. The rest is history.
Enter one Todd Blackledge in relief of Hostetler in game three. Penn State ran the table until a home loss to Pitt in the last game of the season before beating Ohio State in the Fiesta Bowl. Penn State would lose only three more games over the next two years, culminating in their first national championship in 1982. The three losses were at #1 Miami, versus #6 Alabama and at #3 Alabama.
Hostetler would go on to WVU and put up great individual numbers while going 18-6. The Mountaineers lost the 1982 Gator Bowl to Florida State and won the 1983 Hall of Fame Bowl over Kentucky.
I think Penn State fared pretty well without Hostetler.
Re: Signing Day 2016
My example isn't about Penn State. It's about Hostetler, and the move HE made for HIS future. Nice try at defending JoePa though.
Re: Signing Day 2016
Not defending Paterno at all, but his decision to go with Blackledge worked out pretty well. The same can be said for Hostetler's decision to leave, but his leaving Penn State didn't hurt the Lions at allEl-Moldo wrote:My example isn't about Penn State. The infamous Clairton facebook group was in-fighting about Matthews... I guess the guy running it is a PSU grad and is not too pleased. Oh well.
Re: Signing Day 2016
As we have seen previously, the guy running it is an idiot. I wouldn't take his thoughts to heart.

PSU has just added 3* JUCO DT Tyrell Chavis. Nice to get a guy that can come in and contribute immediately at a need position. Chavis also had offers from Auburn, Texas, Miami, WVU, Louisville and others.
You play to win the game!!!

It's just funny to me... because all we've heard is how Clairton and Pitt have some kind of disagreement and yet this is what, the fifth guy from this recent run going to Pitt? And I'm sure Wade will be right up in the running next year too.12HankQB wrote:As we have seen previously, the guy running it is an idiot. I wouldn't take his thoughts to heart.
