College Hoops: 3/7-3/13 (Conference Tourney Week)

To be honest ill start out by saying while this week will be fun and exciting its also something that bothers me tremendously.... I dont like an automatic bid going to a 1 week tourney id rather see it go to a regular season winner and cut this part out.

That point aside what are people looking forward to this week?!

Does pitt need to win vs cuse to stay in the tourney?

Who will out #1 seeds be sunday night?

I disagree with you on that. This is what makes college basketball different than any other team sport. A team like Rutgers that went 35 straight games without a conference win still controls their own destiny for a national championship.

We all know that Rutgers isn't going to win 11 or 12 games in a row that are needed to win the national title but the point is they still have a shot. I do remember in 2011 when Penn State made a run to the B1G championship to make the tourney. Just in the B1G Ohio State, Northwestern, and Michigan could all either play their way in or out of the tournament over the weekend. Penn State, Nebraksa, and Northwestern all have a shot at a NIT bid with a strong conference tournament showing. Indiana, Maryland, Purdue, Iowa, Michigan State, and Wisconsin are all playing for NCAA seeding. By my count that is 11 of the 14 B1G teams that have a lot on the line over the 5 day tournament. Should be fun to watch.

I'm even more excited for next year when the tournament is in Verizon center in DC. Local basketball fans can make a drive to DC and in a few days catch about a dozen major college basketball games.

Its pretty much a play in game for both teams today. Win and you are probably in the tourney. Lose and the bubble might burst

....Wonder if Pat Chambers is looking back 3 years and wondering if he made the right move with Jordon Dickerson? After playing in 26 games as a freshman at SMU, Dickerson transferred to PSU as a sophomore. Chambers petitioned the NCAA to let Dickerson play immediately without sitting out a year. For some reason, the NCAA said yes. Who plays in 26 games one year, and then is allowed to play right away after a transfer the next year? Anyhow, Dickerson played for PSU as a sophomore, junior and senior in the next 3 years. Now his eligibility is done. Chambers will miss him next year, just when he was getting a little better, and PSU has lost their veteran rebounders for 2016-2017.

Was Dickerson really worth it? I'd say not so much.

Well, he's NO Lew Alcindor, but who wouldn't want a 5th year 7'1" veteran player returning for one more year. How many players blossom in their final year? Look at Brandon Taylor. Mediocre for 3 years, then makes 3rd team all Big Ten THIS year. PSU has one Big Man, Julian Moore, returning. And HE didn't set the world on fire either. Dickerson was averaging 18.2 minutes per game this year. That's half a game. He could have played a vital part on next years team.
