I will trade you Michael Morse and Eric Fryer for Tabata and McHenry if you through in some cash.

Nail in coffin..... that 9th inning is the end of a playoff run.... Up by 1, have 2 outs in the top of the ninth with no one on base!

Give up not 1, not 2 but 3 home runs!!!! Not even mentioning the double in between homer 1 and 2. Good thing they traded an all star closer away at the deadline

I guess if they had Melancon, they would be 2-6 this week not 0-8. 2 wins better than none I suppose.

Its also a matter of momentum and trust.... If you are a team giving up games like that and your offense have no trust in your bullpen then its going to effect the team in a pretty big negative way. Losing streaks can be hard to end if you keep giving up games at any point.

So your comment about 2-6 has no real merit as you have no idea how a win earlier or having a solid closer helps the mental strength of a team

I also don't know if Melancon would've saved those games either.

Or Watson gives those runs up in the 8th instead of the 9th.

Exactly, Watson and Feliz have been bad lately, so even getting to Melancon might not have happened. Rivero has been really good in his role lately, and you wouldn't have him if you held on to Melancon.

So it's kind of a vicious cycle of crap from all directions from the Pirates during this 8 game losing streak.

when you trade an All star closer it is going to do nothing but harm to your bullpen all around. But hey i guess they got those prospects that if lucky maybe 1 will turn into a starter let alone an all star

Had they gotten a bunch of prospects in the trade, this would be true. But they got a major league reliever that throws 99.

But since the trade...

Melancon - 18 games // 16.2 Innings // 2.16 ERA // 14 K - 2 BB // .246 Average against

Rivero - 19 games // 18.1 Innings // 1.47 ERA // 28 K - 13 BB // .188 Average against

The point is, Watson has been struggling before they traded Melancon, he still would have pitched tonight and may have blown the lead in the 8th instead of the 9th, that's really the only difference.

A lot is not working for this team, I don't think going back to a trade a month and a half ago is the difference.

I fell asleep after 8, now I want to throw all my crap out the window. As Coach Kline says," Does anybody have an idea?"
