WPIAL needs to make some changes to their playoff format. 7-2 Beaver is a legit top 10 team in the state in AAA and doesn't make the playoffs while a 2-8 team makes it in single A. 2-8? There's no way a 2-8 team has ever made any district playoffs before.

AMEN. I know this year was kind of a big unknown everywhere, but the WPIAL had to know that the four teams in the Beaver Valley Conference would be great. I'm sure everybody feels terrible for Beaver, they were ranked #1 in the state at 7:00pm and out of the playoffs at 10:00pm. The deciding factor definitely had to be keeping four championship games at Heinz Field. It's not fair that only 8 of 23 teams in 3-A make it, while 16 of 24 in 2-A and 16 of 25 in 1-A make the playoffs. Another thing that sucks (or doesn't depending on your views, but I think it sucks) is the WPIAL champion in 3-A gets a BYE in the PIAA playoffs after they win the WPIAL.

If it were me I would put Central Valley as the 6 seed on BF's side of the bracket instead of on Aliquippas side. Essentially CV is most likely the #3 team so the Quips should get the better draw than BF. I'm not real familiar with how they do things but that seems the most reasonable and fair.

Why can't they just announce them on a Sunday? I feel like you should get the full Monday-Thursday knowing your opponent.

Three scheduling quirks:

Aliquippa hosts their home game at Ambridge. And with Keystone Oaks playing at home on Friday night, Bishop Canevin hosts their playoff game on Saturday night at 7pm. And then Pittsburgh Central Catholic is hosting their playoff game at Cupples Stadium on Friday night.

Just a question from an observer.
Is this something for teams to think about when deciding to play up a classification?

In 3A, four teams times three conferences seems a pretty obvious answer.

WPIAL wanted four title games at Heinz Field. Can't add an extra round and finish a week early. 2A and 1A both finish the next week, holding their titles at RMU this year.

So basically Beaver HS  gets 'screwed' because the Wpial has to hold on to their  games at Heinz Field.    Yeah I know, playing there is a great opportunity.  Guess not so much for the two small school classifications.   Then the Wpial AAA champion has to sit a week before playing in the state semi final game.    JMO but the Wpial dropped the ball big time on this one.
