Matchups

Post by footballfan1 »

If I remember correctly back a few years ago maybe it was ESPN would discuss certain teams in the NFL matched up vs each other from different years. ie..  1976 Steelers vs. 1993 Washing redskins  etc...
I am trying to think in single A football who back in years past would give the current two time state champion BG football team a run for their money.  Bishop Carrol had some good teams and the one that made it to Hersey possibly given BG a run?  Bishop McCort? Was McCort ever single A though?  All I can think of right now is other local Bishop Schools in single A giving BG a good game.  I am sure I am missing some others though?  Winber when Slatcoff was a Jr I believe they beat Carrol that year?  Bellwood was single A for some years and they had a couple teams that would I believe of matched up with BG?    Others?

Penns Manor's 2012 team?

McCort's 2008 and 2009 teams would be right there with these current Guilfoyle teams. McCort went to Hershey in 2009.

Well if your talking just d6 i think Bishop Carroll from 03 and McCort from 09. Now if your saying like the whole state now the Tyler Boyd Clairton teams and the Henry Hinoski Southern Columbia teams.

I think locally in Single A besides the Bishop's, I think the 2006 & 2012 Bellwood-Antis teams would give BG a game, especially 2006. That team finished #2 in the state and lost to a LOADED Southern Columbia team in the Eastern Finals.

As far as overall state wide I think the Boyd led Clairton Bears and Hynoski led Southern Columbia Tigers would be AWESOME matchups to see!!!

I'd also like to see the BG teams vs. the 1999 Tyrone team just to put this thing to bed!!! HAHAHAHA

All of the above were good teams , even great teams, but this BG team is something above , if they have a healthy Evan Chadbourne who knows?

That line is just so good, how many of the above teams could equal what they had upfront.
I still think that their weakness is speed. A fast Clariton team or similar would be a contrasting matchup of interest.
Also the kicker from BG is as good as I have seen , maybe domonkos from BG compares

Southern Columbia in those days had at least 2 kids on the line 300 and the rest weren't far off. And Hynoski was a wrecking ball.

Since BG plays Juniata Valley this week how about this one. 1987 Green Hornets...They were ranked # 1 in the State and won 6A. Had a 4000 yard career rusher, a good sized OL and a lights out D.

2008 Steelton Highspire was a pretty good class A team. They had Jeremiah Young who had 9,000 career rushing yards, second most in state history. They also had Jordan Hill who went to PSU and was with the Seahawks.

I went to the game when they beat McCort in the state quarterfinal. They went on to beat Clairton in Hershey.
