Pirates looking to trade McCutchen

I think they are trying to get rid of the player, not the contract in Josh Harrison.

Why, and if so, who are they going to play at second base?   Frazier's defense (or lack there of)  does not project as an everyday player.  Hanson is no longer a prospect.  Rodriquez is gone to the Braves.    Yeah they could go out and sign a FA, but can they get someone comparable to Harrison for the price/ salary they are paying him?  Not likely.
I am not necessarily a big Harrison fan, but based on their current roster, I see no logical reason that they would be considering trading him at this time other than to dump his contract.

Yeah I agree, I think Harrison is pretty average and they overpaid the guy. But it's still not a crippling contract. They may hang onto him.

You can't always rely on prospects. But the Cubs just won the World Series with a bunch of their own prospects.  Meadows is graded as a top 10 prospect just like Kris Bryant. It's not crazy to think he may very well be that good.

True. But so was Lastings Milledge at one point too.

Well not every prospect or five star recruit turns into a star obviously, we can go back and forth on those instances all day if we wanted to. The Pirates higher end prospects have been giving them results lately.  Their development and drafting has been pretty good of late. There are no sure things, but a whole heck of a lot of people give Meadows high praise.

I completely agree with you but with baseball their seems to be two types of people. Those that don't trust prospects one but until they prove they can play at the big league level and those that would rather have a team loaded full of prospects than proven players. 

I try to fall somewhere in between. You can't rely on prospects to step in and compare to a perennial all-star in McCutchen but you also got to realize that a player like Meadows could be more productive over they next 5-6 years than McCutchen will be.

I trust prospects but you need to also add proven players to balance it out.

Pirates were on the verge of trading Andrew McCutchen for the #1 pitching prospect in all of baseball last night Lucas Giolito (for context Glasnow is the third highest pitching prospect) and 2 other pieces, but it didn't happen and the Nats made a move for Adam Eaton of the White Sox for a similar deal. 

It looks like McCutchen will be a Pirate this season after all, but they are going to discuss a move to right field with him.

It looks like McCutchen will be a Pirate this season after all, but they are going to discuss a move to right field with him. 

Cutch put the team first in signing the team friendly deal years ago.  Hopefully he will put the team first, and willingly make the move to right field.
