Recruiting question?

Post by CoffinCorner »

Board has gotten slow, trying to think of some things to discuss, listed 5 RB numbers from the area.  Are they interchangable?  All play from A to AAA.    Could you take one and put on another team, would they still be successful.  Why do some get recruited and some not?   All similar in size.   Some of the listed are going to school, some not(so far).  Do their numbers even matter?  Is it more about the work in the summer at college camps?

Running back A
6’0 190
155 carries, 1615 yards, 22 touchdowns
Running back B
6’0 190
164 carries, 1174 yards, 17 touchdowns

Running Back C
6’2 184
322 carries, 2504 yards, 42 touchdowns
Running Back D
6’1  216
185 carries, 1694 yards, 34 touchdowns

Running Back E
5’10 182

240 carries, 2297 yards, 40 touchdowns

High School stats don't mean too much. The leading rusher in the state is committed to Yale.

I agree, but does size matter?   Does level of competition matter?  Does your teams success matter?  Just curious what the intangibles are that do matter.

Good question, what is important. Alex Hoenstine is as good of an athlete as Ryan Lezzer or Evan Chadbourne , but for some reason is not being courted in the same manner.

I have no idea what his grades are like but don't think that's something I want to discuss on a message board.

Stats can matter but your film, times and upside matter more. So for exaple can you add on another 20 lbs in college to become stronger, more durable and a keep your speed. Now say one of thoes kids runs a 4.48 40 then they will be more sought after than the kid who runs qa 4.8 40 with better numbers. They like to see these kids in camps because they go against kids who are the same caliber and see how they stack up there. So where do stats matter? Well if you have 2 kids who are similar in those areas then the stats will sway you one way or another. Competion, abality to play other positions, cathcing and blocking all go into what they want at the next level. To pick out of those it cant be done without the other information anymore. 30 to 40 years ago yes they would take some kids with big number after they talked to coaches and their scouts that went to the games. Now they want full game films, a good word from coaches and scouts, abality to get bigger on their frame and the combine numbers to back it up all with seeing them first hand in camps against comparable competion.

Grades are private... that's not something that should be discussed on a forum.
