Did the ball hit the pipe? Manfred any thoughts?DragonsDoExist wrote:Tyrone win came on FT with no time on the clock!

How 3 officials could not see a missed Tyrone shot that went off the iron into the air, come down on and roll across the top of the backboard, with 1 second left, then fall into the hands of a Tyrone player who was, supposedly, fouled in the scramble, with no time left, just boggles the mind of the observer. This game should have gone to O.T.DragonsDoExist wrote:Tyrone win came on FT with no time on the clock!

I wasn't at the game so I am asking these questions and making an observation blindly, but here goes. If the shot you are talking about was a free throw, then everything else you said could have legally happened. The clock does not start until the ball touches a player. The ball is not considered out of bounds by being on top of the background, only if it touches the support that holds the backboard. Was it a fouls shot originally? Did the ball hit anything on top of the backboard? Depending on the answer to those questions the officials could have done the right thing.

Re: Tuesday Scoreboard 2/21/17
It was a layup attempt not a free throw. Refs got together and determined it did not hit the overhead pipes and granted the free throws.

Re: Tuesday Scoreboard 2/21/17
The top of the backboard is considered in play. The back of the backboard and supporting structures are not. So what you described was legal. This actually happened in a game of ours last week minus the fact that it happened with 1 second left and it was not a foul shot.

Ball hit the pipes that support the backboard, which was missed, then the supposed foul looked to come after the buzzer had sounded as well. Really tough way to lose any game, especially a playoff game.

I hope I don't get killed on this one, lol. How much time do official actually spend on their craft? These coaches and players spend so much time preparing and working to have game decided by guys who just want to go to the nearest bar after the game. I have watched a ton of high school basketball over the years and the officiating just seems to get worse and worse. I don't know what can be done about it but I would suggest multiple trainings throughout the year. Also referees should not be able to stop a game to make a parent shut up in the crowd, unless the fan is cursing and threatening. Anytime I see an official do that it just lets me know that they are more concerned with what is going on in the stands then on the court.
