We always hear about transfers from school to school. But can anyone think of a local school that benefitted from the addition of a foreign exchange student?

Doesn't have to be just this year. In years past too

The only one I can think of is Barhacs at Williamsburg. She literally carries that team, but you would expect that from someone with U16 national team experience.
Not to hi-jack the thread, but when I read the following article in the Altoona Mirror, I was surprised that the content did not raise the "athletic purpose" flag with the D6 committee. I hope she gets her wish to attend college in the US and play collegiate basketball.

Couple years ago Kiski Prep had the 2 7 foot brothers from Canada on the team. Not really foreign exchange students, but still pretty cool. Only played there for 1 or maybe 2 years then transferred to I believe Huntington Prep WV

Back in the late 80's or early 90's, the Rangers had a young man from Germany I think, named Sven Crone. He was here a little over a year, but did help as a kicker one season. The bad part is he left before the end of one season and the playoffs.
It ain't over until it's over.

I remember the Bhullr brothers at Kiski. They were huge. I think they played at New Mexico State or somewhere like that out West
Kiski tried to sell itself as a hot destination prep basketball school for a while, they attracted those kids there. Not sure if Kiski is still trying to do that. There's a school in Washington, PA at the moment with a bunch of foreign basketball players. They aren't PIAA, just based here.

I recall hearing stories about some Swedish kids playing hockey at Guilfoyle (I think). Someone familiar with Ferndale might be able to help me out, I think they had a foreign exchange kicker the year they beat Windber at home in the game they used the Fair Catch Free Kick (their District championship year).
On a similar note, the 1990 Johnstown Trojans greatly benefitted from having Spanish exchange student Arturo Vega at placekicker. He even won a lightning/rain shortened game 3-0.
Although the Trojans have had very solid kicking over the past 15 or so years, the seasons leading up to '90 it was really a crap shoot or they just opted to go for 2. To have a kicker that was reliable in extra points was a luxury. I remember Jerry Davitch being quoted in the paper after a game he was three for three that they should put a plaque outside of the Point Stadium for the accomplishment!!!
Sorry, just realized this post was in the basketball forum... oh well, enjoy it anyway lol

Kiski is not marketing itself as a basketball destination any longer. That is one of the major reasons the coach was let go and is now the coach at Gateway HS in Pittsburgh. They will take a post grad if the kid approaches the school but they are not actively looking for transfers ( as far as I know). The Bhullar Bros did transfer along with a 6'10 kid named Stephan Janocovich (sp?). He transferred to a Prep in WV. He ended up playing a year or 2 at Missouri (I think) and then transferred to Hawaii and is currently in the D league of the NBA.
First Love Christian is located in Washington PA and it does have a lot of Canadian players on the team. They are talented as at one point this year they were ranked #12 in the nation. Several D 1 players on the team.
Back on task, Meadville had a kid in 1990 from Yugoslavia. Dominic Dumonchick (sp?) Who was 6'10 and shot the 3 ball well. Ended up playing at Pitt and getting minutes and eventually started. That was back in the day when bigs never shot the 3 ball here in America so to see this giant knocking down 3's, it was impressive.

I remember Portage had a kid in the late 80's for basketball, Christian Andersen??? I think he was foreign exchange living with the Kargo's for that year. I might have gotten the name wrong, but I think it was the '87 season. He was decent.
