Heat acclimation
Re: Heat acclimation
First games should not be played on the 25th of August. They should be played no earlier than September 1. In fact no school should start classes until September 5. Bring back summer.

Are kids complaining? Generally kids that play football, like to play football. I would think they are anxious to start their seasons. They just had 2 months to go swimming in their neighbor's pool and go to the beach.knowitall wrote:First games should not be played on the 25th of August. Plus the season last until the third week of December, do we want to start playing the state championship game on New Year's Day? The schedule is fine, I think it's probably a good thing they moved the season up a bit.

I think you both have a good point. I think you could accommodate both if you eliminate the teams with 3-7 records. Shorten the playoff season. But that would mean less money. Silly me.Crimson's Ghost wrote:Are kids complaining? Generally kids that play football, like to play football. I would think they are anxious to start their seasons. You're only young once, but you can be immature forever!!!

Eliminate week one and week eleven.
Kids obviously are complaining. Have you seen the numbers for many schools? Ninth graders playing varsity? Good grief.

Re: Heat acclimation
I don't think practicing one week earlier is making kids quit football. It's probably that this game can turn your head into mush and parents aren't letting their kids play.
They have Spring football down South, they start earlier than August 25 as well. There are schools with college sized teams. The lack of numbers here are probably because all the schools in Cambria and Somerset county are shrinking, along with the more known and publicized health risks.
Even so, kids this day and age don't know any different. They go from high school football to high school basketball/wrestling right into high school baseball right into AAU basketball right into Summer baseball while playing in 7 on 7 football camps and right when summer baseball is over, high school football is starting again.

I agree, Crimson. So let's add another week of practice!
And the South doesn't count. They fly a different flag down there in many places.

Be happy its not triple digits and smoke weather. Fire season is getting really bad out here... a lot of towns are working with very unhealthy air conditions on top of 100+ degree days. Id kill for a 70 degree high right now!

You can still have your head turned into mush while wearing shorts.

I guess you can fall off a diving board and turn your head into mush as well. The last day on the upcoming Conemaugh Valley school calendar is May 30. Assuming football starts the same time next year, they'll have 67 days of "summer" instead of 74 if they start a week later.
I mean, generally speaking older generations think younger generations are soft, they're probably all just sitting around playing video games and are up to no good anyway. Get a little structure in their lives, right?
