Heritage/West Pac Sponsorship
Re: Heritage/West Pac Sponsorship
My point in all of this schools with enrollments under 110 don't have much of a chance of winning anything.
So do we need to start a new A minus classification?
And it's Windber.

Re: Heritage/West Pac Sponsorship
Lol, I'm not talking about about creating a new classification, new conferences, or any of that. I was just throwing an idea out for the first game of a triple header, to throw those schools that this year would include (Penns Manor, Saltsburg, Shade, Blacklick, Ferndale, Meyersdale, and Conemaugh Valley) a measly crumb of the table. The example I used for Homer and Winber was the second game. and would set up 2 vs 2 match up. The first game would be small school game.
Again, it may not be your thing. Just an idea.

Are you guys forgetting, this is part of regular season? These do count for district playoff seeding.

Nope, fully aware.
What would change from what is currently taking place, which is straight crossover? Let's just take this year as an example if the rest of the season would play out as expected.
Appalachian Bowl: Ligonier vs Portage 8pm
The Johnstown Bowl or anything besides the "Loser" Bowl: Homer vs. Winber 4pm
The Small School Bowl (Obviously a different Name: Heritage (under 110 with at least 4 wins PM 4-5 vs Ferndale (5-4)
Now crossover (Friday Night Before)
Norther Cambria vs Berlin (7-2) vs (7-2) I believe Berlin is AA due to a co-op
Purchase Line (6-3) vs Meyersdale (5-4)
West Shamokin (4-5) vs North Star (4-5)
United (4-5) vs Twp (3-6)
Saltsburg 2-7 vs Shade 2-7
Blairsville 1-8 vs Conemaugh Valley 1-8
Marion Center 0-9 vs Blacklick 0-9
At worst you may be taking 10 points off a 4-5 team. In some cases it will be advantageous. Again, the two conferences are already doing a similar form of this. In 90% of the cases it will be advantageous to all winning teams.

And I was just throwing the point out as an example. It doesn't matter if it's Johnstown High, heck you might get lucky and get IUP.
Ahh, this is too much hassle. Just keep it as is. See you at Ligonier on the 28th, I'll probably leave at halftime though. The game will be over.

Ligonier would have fallen into the "Loser" bowl, or worse every year before the last couple years. I just don't see what you are actually playing for in this game. If you want to have multiple games at a site to bring in more fans, go for it. I love watching more games. What the Heritage Conference does in basketball because second place teams are actually playing for something. A chance to go to the championship. In football it's just one crossover game and done.Fballrules17 wrote:You are certainly entitled to your opinion, even one expressed with such bravado.ChrisKentRam wrote:So whoever finishes in second place in each league gets to play in the firstloser.com bowl game?
This is no shot at Ligonier. You won't find a classier, more humble group of fans, coaches, and players (even if you are one of the three). However, many of those same people will tell you they are in a very advantageous situation. Ligonier has 195 boys in grades 9-11 according to last years numbers. Meaning they have around 260 boys in 9-12 around 65 boys per grade. Homer has about 36 boys per grade and around 135 boys in the school. (about half of Ligonier)
You figure about 20% of boys play high school football. On average Ligonier has about 13 boys per grade playing football, they have a roster in the low 50's so that estimate is pretty spot on. Homer on the other should average about 7 players per grade. For a roster of about 28. Their roster is right around 40 so you can deduce the staff their is doing a great job of getting kids out. Their percentage of participation is about 30%.
My point in all of this schools with enrollments under 110 don't have much of a chance of winning anything. What Homer has done these past two years is very impressive. I would argue even more impressive than what Ligonier has done. So if you want to call a bowl game with Homer and Winber a "Loser" bowl be my guest.
On a side note... You would argue wrongly that what Homer has done the last couple of years was more impressive. They haven't done anything.
If you want to go back to their District Championship year, then I agree.

If you don't think the numbers matter. Do me a favor, and see what type of response you get when you urge LV administration to join the LHAC, or better yet the WPIAL (because the program is so strong). Maybe they would put LV in Steel Valley's conference with Serra Catholic as well, heck since numbers don't matter they could play up and be with Mt. Pleasant and Derry (since numbers don't matter), plus it's a better geographic fit. You'll find that generally those teams have more speed than schools half LV's size like Homer, or 1/3 of LV's size like Saltsburg. Generally.ChrisKentRam wrote:Ligonier would have fallen into the "Loser" bowl, or worse every year before the last couple years. I just don't see what you are actually playing for in this game. Oh by the way. If Carroll leaves there could be an opening. Watch how quickly they jump on it.

Carroll is out of the LHAC for football. Chestnut Ridge has already taken the spot.
